The GOP Digs Its Own Grave…and Ours

Stalwart supporters of the GOP have long ignored the direction in which establishment Republicans have dragged the party. Stubborn supporters, adamant in thinking the GOP was their last refuge, have stuck their fingers in their ears against warnings that the GOP was frantically twerking itself into “Democrat-Lite.”A handful of stalwarts have been shouting “the sky is falling,” at top volume, to no avail. They have been treated like Chicken Little…even though meteors have left huge craters everywhere. Several stories breaking on Thursday should make an end to hiding one’s head in the sand. Unfortunately, awareness may come too late.

GOP Representative Paul Ryan, America’s pseudo-Conservative who ran for vice president in 2012, wants to formalize a path to legalize illegals in this country. A Wall Street Journal article begins:

Rep. Paul Ryan (R., Wis.)…confirmed Wednesday that Republicans are looking to give illegal immigrants legal status right away, with the chance for a green card—and citizenship—down the line… illegal immigrants would be offered a “probationary” status, allowing them to work while the government tightened border security and interior enforcement… Mr. Ryan said it would make sure that the Obama administration went ahead with the enforcement provisions. “We want to make sure that we write a law that he can’t avoid,” Mr. Ryan said.

This is how far the madness has progressed. Is there a law The Lyin’ King can’t ignore? He ignores federal laws already on the books, laws more stringent than what Ryan proposes. Such laws are not only ignored by the Imperial President but are actively suppressed by his regime in states wishing to enforce them.

But Ryan doesn’t stop there: “After that, they would be eligible for a regular work permit…this group could apply for green cards using the same system available to any newcomer.’” One shouldn’t have to point out to a Congressman that entering America illegally is breaking the law. But he wants to reward them for it. Amnesty has been granted many times before; we know how well that’s worked out. Is the ill-advised belief that we will be able to stop illegal entry in future when we can’t control it now? Democrats have already signaled that they can work with such a plan. Of course they can; Democrats would immediately push for citizenship once this travesty is in place, insuring a permanent voting base. Yet, the GOP is doing everything in its power to guarantee its own demise.

The Wall Street Journal states: “The idea will get its first full airing on Thursday afternoon, when House Republicans are scheduled to discuss immigration at their retreat in Cambridge, MD.” According to FOX News, House leaders announced their approval of reprieve for illegals late Thursday. Democrats everywhere are rejoicing.

Anne Coulter, on her blog www.annecoulter.com, cited a report compiled by Phyllis Schlafly which has not yet been made public. Ms. Coulter, however, did get a copy and posted the results: “Citing surveys from the Pew Research Center, the Pew Hispanic Center, Gallup, NBC News, Harris polling, the Annenberg Policy Center, Latino Decisions, the Center for Immigration Studies and the Hudson Institute, Schlafly’s report overwhelmingly demonstrates that merely continuing our current immigration policies spells doom for the Republican Party…” Coulter goes on to share the results of these polls. In short, the majority of current immigrants, legal and illegal, are far left, politically, and do not support America or her beliefs.

What they do support are large, government programs:

Even after three generations in America, Hispanics still support bigger government 55 percent to 36 percent, compared to the general public, which opposes bigger government 48 percent to 41 percent. How are Republicans going to square that circle?…Reading these statistics, does anyone wonder why Democrats think vastly increasing immigration should be the nation’s No. 1 priority?”

Coulter postulates that the GOP would become a fringe party within ten years if it continues along this path.

Senator Ted Cruz, speaking to Breitbart on Thursday, said Congress’s Republicans were urging a “stand-down” position on everything such as the budget, Obamacare and now immigration:

Amnesty is wrong in any circumstance… Anyone pushing an amnesty bill right now should go ahead and put a “Harry Reid for Majority Leader” bumper sticker on their car, because that will be the likely effect if Republicans refuse to listen to the American people and foolishly change the subject from Obamacare to amnesty.

Industries such as farming have a demonstrated need for temporary workers when crops are ready for harvest. If that is the argument for the importation of foreign labor, temporary work visas might be an answer. Study after study indicates that temporary workers from Mexico return to their country, if legally permitted to do so, rather than stay in America. Illegals cannot now return because they cannot afford to return the way they entered. Such being the case, illegal invaders attach themselves to the public teat and become generational limpets on society. If temporary work visas can make return possible, why is permanent legalization necessary?

National Review Online published an interview with Pat Buchanan on Thursday warning that John Boehner would lose his position as Speaker of the House if he persisted with the amnesty push. But the stakes are far higher; the House, itself could be lost, never mind the Senate. At that point, America’s transition to a one-party system, and her subsequent end, would be complete.
