Great Theories But … Dangerous Lies Libertarians Tell

I have had plenty of time recently to read and study America. I have been moving across the country and basically living from hotel to hotel on the way out to Arizona. The fundamental truth that I keep coming back to is this, as a nation we have already socially failed. I don’t know that we will ever recover from it either.

I have found that I blame two schools of thought in our society today. The first one is this idea that we are not allowed to judge each other. The second is Libertarianism. Libertarianism is the root cause of the decay in the Republican party and a large reason why true Conservatism has been lost.

Libertarian thoughts and arguments are predicated largely on this quote from Thomas Jefferson. “But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say their are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.” Well, I beg to differ with the very logic of this quote. In fact this is where this idea of Libertarianism and amorality come together and are rotting America from the inside out.

Libertarians believe that this idea of governance where we just leave everyone to their devices will work. However, in the real world where my neighbors choices often have somewhat of an effect on me, this idea will never work. To give you an example, I was talking with a fellow conservative friend and as we were discussing Libertarianism he made a statement that I thought was amazing. He said, “Mark, I was a libertarian and thought that everyone should be able to do what they want. But then I had kids and suddenly I started to look at how things effect my kids lives and safety.”

This is such a great point, America! What Mr. Jefferson didn’t understand is that when you have no laws and no morality, eventually your neighbor is coming to pick your pocket and break your leg. A recent survey in the United Kingdom showed that those who spent more time at a church or other place of worship and were committed to their religion were less likely to commit crimes. We shouldn’t need a study to tell us this but in our society today people want the numbers to validate our “religion.”

So with this in mind let me ask you again, who do you want living next door? You see libertarians don’t live in the real world. Sure, if we were in fact all just responsible for our own actions and they never touched anyone else that would be fine, but this is America. In America we have taken on the sins of the lazy and often times ungrateful segment of our society. You say let them smoke pot and let gays get married and who am I to say that we need to be pushing abstinence in our classrooms. Let me break it down for you.

Let them smoke pot in Colorado? Ok, because guess what, it’s you and me who are going to pay. How? We are going to pay by more fatalities on the road as we have added yet another vice to the market, we are going to pay because we have given the welfare class another reason to sit home and play XBOX and we are going to pay because we are fathering a new generation of kids into a drug culture. Don’t believe me, watch this video of this toddler learning to be a “gangsta.”

Let gays get married. This is a debate that is going to continue to rage on and on but we are going to bypass all of this and go to one incontrovertible truth. Gay males spread sexually transmitted diseases at a much higher rate than any other segment of sexually active people anywhere in the world. According to studies done by both the CDC and the National Institutes of Health, both government agencies mind you, men in a gay lifestyle spread and carry these diseases at a remarkably higher rate.

So this both can pick your pocket and break your leg. In this new collectivist America with our revolutionary new healthcare, who is paying for all of these gay men to be treated for these conditions including AIDS and HIV? We are! Consider your pocket picked my friends. This could also result in a metaphorical broken leg as well. There are countless stories of women who have been given AIDS by their closeted gay husbands. Legs and bodies officially broken.

Finally we don’t want to tell anyone that they should be practicing abstinence. Illegitimacy rates in 1960 were just over five percent. Today just forty years later the rate is just over forty percent. The rate has gone up eight hundred percent since we stopped promoting abstinence and religion. Free love isn’t really all that free though. In this report the government even says that kids from a single parent family are much more likely to commit crimes. In another study almost sixty percent of all unwed mothers lack a high school diploma. Where are they getting the money to raise these kids who will statistically become criminals? Again consider you pocket picked and your leg broken.

We removed God from the equation and with him went the morality. Libertarians believe that we all live in a bubble and are responsible for our own actions, but this is a falsehood from which we will not recover. There is no such thing as being free from the decisions of your fellow countrymen when we slide closer and closer to socialism every single day. My only hope is once enough people are missing their wallets and their legs are in casts we will see that libertarianism is nothing more than a utopian construct that was born out of falsehoods and hopes and dreams.
