Evil! Life-Destroying Effect of Liberal Hypocrisy About the Family
The recent story in the slick, inside-the-Beltway mag Washingtonian Mom about “power couple” Jay Carney and Claire Shipman, featuring glossy images of Claire and her two adorable children in their perfect House Beautiful kitchen, its counters heaving with gorgeous fresh produce, as they prepare breakfast, and a badly-faked photo of both Mom and Dad behind a podium fielding questions from the kids at a faux press conference, has inspired many to ask, “Wait, I thought women were supposed to ‘lean in,’ as in get in there, forget those schoolyard taunts about being too ‘bossy’, and blast past that annoying glass ceiling by outworking those inferior male life forms!”
Sisters are doing it for themselves! You can have it all! Except as it turns out, as any woman who has tried will tell you, you can’t. You can’t do everything and do everything well, something that Claire Shipman clearly understands. That’s why she has chosen to exercise her right to have a “flexible”, as in part time, work schedule so that she can be around to raise her children while Jay brings home the bacon. So retro! Hello, Ward Cleaver!
By, the way, just as women cannot work insane hours, travel all over the country and still run a household, neither can men. That’s one reason that the traditional family works so well. The limits on time and human energy apply to both men and women equally, as do the laws about equal pay for equal work, which have been in effect since 1963. That inconvenient fact hasn’t stopped our Demagogue-in-Chief from going full Alinsky as the midterm elections approach, hoping to stir up resentment and rage among the Downtrodden, which he hopes will accrue to his political party’s benefit come November by lying about women being paid less than men. He’s even resorted to trotting out another liar, Lilly Ledbetter, the latest liberal martyr to get her 15 minutes in the spotlight courtesy of the Regime.
Just as the politics at play in the latest iteration of Obama’s accusation that his opponents are conducting a “war on Women” are obvious, so is the hypocrisy of his administration. As many have noted, the very mouthpiece Barack Obama sends out to address the White House press corps every day and his wife are living, breathing examples of the reason for that silly, threadbare “77 cents on the dollar” mantra that the Left has been bleating for at least 40 years. When you account for the impact on work history and experience that the choice to go on the “mommy track” has on women’s careers, the so-called “wage gap” disappears.
Of course, that doesn’t stop Jay Carney from trying to defend Obama’s politically-expedient lies. He gets paid to lie about lies for a living, and fortunately for him and his family, he gets paid enough so that his wife can work part-time. Oh, and don’t even go there: you can’t embarrass these people, not that the lapdog press would ever try.
So, the politics are obvious. The hypocrisy is obvious. Less obvious is the hideously negative impact that these phony liars have on people foolish enough to listen to what comes out of their mendacious mouths rather than looking at how the proponents of pathology actually live their lives.
Back in the 1980’s, author Myron Magnet wrote a must-read book for anyone who wants to understand how our country got so messed up. As the description at amazon.com notes, Mr. Magnet’s thesis in The Dream and Nightmare is that “[L]ifestyle experimentation among the white middle class produced often catastrophic changes in attitudes toward marriage and parenting, the work ethic and dependency in those at the bottom of the social ladder, and closed down their exits to the middle class.”
Simply put, in the late 1960’s, wealthy white liberals convinced poor, mostly minority people to abandon the values that would give them the tools to escape wretched poverty. With the stigma removed from having a child out of wedlock, illegitimacy rates skyrocketed, with it the inevitable government dependency. The only problem was that the people encouraging this very destructive behavior were insulated from its consequences, at least materially, by their high incomes. If Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon could have children without getting married, why can’t I? If they can drop out of school, what am I doing there?
Now we have the Jay Carneys and Claire Shipmans of the world practically canonizing single mothers, and ready to pounce on any mouth-breathing bitter clinger who dares to suggest that the traditional family with one man and one woman raising the children that they created after they got married are doing the right thing as a troglodyte.
I can just picture a young, uneducated, unmarried woman in her trailer watching one of these empty skirts like Claire, Diane or any other vacuous newsreader that you can name do a story on TV about the “courage” of someone like Sandra Fluke or Wendy “Abortion Barbie” Davis, for bravely fighting the oppressive patriarchy, and deciding that she too can be a proud single mother no matter what any damn man tries to say. You go, Girl! And when you are trying to make that EFT card last until the end of the month, perhaps you can take some comfort from those photos of Claire and her children in their beautiful, ample kitchen, living the good life because she chose to be a tad less “courageous.”
These are not serious people (“power couple”, my rear end), but sadly, their insistence of cheerleading for social pathology while they live large by following conservative rules makes the damage they continue to do to many people very serious and very disgusting indeed.
