The center fielder for Double-A Corpus Christi, who is the son of former MLB player Delino DeShields, was hit by a fastball on the right side of his face during a game in Frisco, Texas.
The ball was travelling at an estimated 90mph and was thrown by pitcher Phil Klein, a Texas Rangers prospect with the Frisco RoughRiders.
DeShields managed to walk off the field unaided after taking the hit.

He is expected to be out several weeks with a broken cheekbone.
