Jerry Seinfeld once compared the IRS to the Mafia in a comedic bit because “they can take anything they want.” While this belief about government has always been partially true, a chuckle can be drawn from the bit because of the ridiculousness of comparing a free, representative republic to a secretive and violent gang of criminals.
The Mafia is known for its deep rooted involvement in unions, politics, businesses, and individuals in the communities they surrounded. The Mafia was and still is notorious for evading accountability, defense tactics and maintaining absolute control within the ranks of membership. This unyielding reign was feared and hated by law abiding citizens and governing officials, so much so that Robert Kennedy made it a primary mission to thwart their criminal activity as Attorney General. Although the Mafia’s heyday has certainly passed, it’s just getting started for the Democratic party.
Perhaps the most important concept one can derive from the Mafia mentality is that they get stuff done. Through the use of corrupt tactics like intimidation and bribery, the Mafia was able to regularly maintain this stronghold on people and entities to get what they wanted.
This method must have been so effective that the Democratic Party took note and started adopting these tactics. We’ve seen a political shift from the Democratic Party in Kennedy’s day to a party featuring the likes of Al Sharpton, Harry Reid, and Leland Yee; no strangers to corruption or criminal activity. The Democratic Party has become an organized crime unit which thrives, even delights, in bribery, extortion, and intimidation. True, Republicans are no angels and have certainly had their fair share of lies and scandals (hey, it’s politics!), but the level of criminal activity in the Democratic Party is that of a Martin Scorsese film. And no matter what the circumstances are or the proceedings that follow the crime, the Democrat either gets off scot free or merely receives a slap on the wrist (case in point: Nixon vs. Obama)
Sadly, these facts represent the current ruling class in our country today. The Democratic Party has managed to use the Mafia’s notorious defense tactics, absolute control, and exclusivity to avoid accountability for their unethical behavior. This past year alone, the Democrats have been riddled with scandals that have been minimized and largely swept under the rug by a complicit media, which in and of itself has become a Mafia-like enterprise, controlling most of the information disseminated to the public.
Examples like Lois Lerner pleading the 5th for her involvement in IRS targeting of numerous Tea Party groups nationwide, or John Kerry shamelessly planning a trip to Mexico May 21-22 while he has been subpoenaed to appear before a congressional hearing on the Benghazi tragedy are undeniable proof of this notion. But don’t worry, Kerry says that he “[has] nothing to hide whatsoever and [looks] forward to complying with whatever responsibilities we have.” Thanks for the reassurance, Lurch.
Or who could forget Madame Clinton “falling ill” in 2012 shortly before she was scheduled to testify on Benghazi (see a pattern here?) before the House and Senate. Evasion of accountability is only the beginning of the Left’s Mafioso tactics. We’ve seen numerous examples of individuals who “know too much” being bullied, bribed, and punished. Just ask State Department official Gregory Hicks what repercussions he’s experienced since releasing his account of the gross mishandling in Benghazi. Hicks has been reassigned from his Libyan post since releasing his statements and his status with the department is currently “unassigned”.
In its defense, the State Department has released a statement saying his reassignment is not related to his account. So far, four unnamed whistle-blowers have claimed they have been threatened by the Obama administration and have retained attorneys.
The actions of this Democratic Party are the exact behaviors our Founding Fathers tried to protect a young America from. They knew that absolute power corrupts absolutely, and they risked everything they had to form a government which governed — not controlled — its people. Is this really how far we’ve come as a country in the past 238 years? With all the lives lost and bloodshed this country has endured to allow freedom and justice to prevail, and someone like Nancy Pelosi who uses this country as their own personal piggy bank and source of power is the best we can do? Cover ups, scandals, intimidation, and bribing is the best the Democratic party can come up with — but it’s not the best America can come up with.
