NO BIG DEAL? A Missed Presidential Briefing Here and There

I was reading about a group of American soldiers who were massacred by SS troops during the Battle of The Bulge in WW II. It was awful. The Americans were captured during the fight and then shot where they stood in the snow. We would probably never have learned of the horrible event if not for the fact two soldiers feigned death and lay in the snow for hours while their comrades who survived the initial onslaught were observed up close and checked for their condensing breath in the cold air, which got them a bullet in the head. The two survivors escaped and informed their officers. (No further SS troops were …strangely…ever captured alive.)

Then I thought about the Benghazi murder of our Seals and ambassador and his assistant. The contrast is striking. A quick cursory review points up a few glaring distinctions.

1) WW II was a war authorized by Congress; 2) The WW II Americans were unarmed whereas the Seals weren’t unarmed…until they ran out of ammo because Hillary ignored their calls for resupply; 3) No one knew about the SS murders until the escaped survivors got to their officers; 4) No SS troops were ever taken alive after the massacre whereas Obama wants to bring every captured bad guy to New York and afford them all rights available under the US Constitution…just like ISIS does with their prisoners…just before they torture and rape them…just before they behead them…just before they rape them again; 5) WW II troops in the field were allowed to exercise their own initiative while fighting bad people whereas in our current conflict our troops have to telephone in to get permission to kill bad people; 6) WW II troops in the field exercised their battlefield discretion effectively (see the paucity of SS prisoners of war after the massacre noted above); 7) During WW II America had a C.I.C. who was a leader; 8) During WW II America had a C.I.C. who was an Episcopalian, I think, whereas today America has a C.I.C. who is a Muslim; I think, 9) In WW II there was no cover-up; 10) In WW II the American soldiers didn’t get to call for help before the murders.

Steve Bowers grew up on a farm in Indiana, attended Indiana University and went into the construction business. While working on a construction project at a law school he was appalled at how lawyers could screw stuff up on a simple building project. Thinking he could do better, Steve went to law school. He’s pretty naive.
