YES, BY ALL MEANS ‘JUDGE’: Calling Out Christians Who Are Liberals

Can a Christian be a liberal?  Given the ever widening schism between conservatives and liberals, between those who believe in traditional American values and secular progressives, I know this is a question that is starting to be asked more frequently by a lot of concerned people.

But wait a minute, Christians aren’t supposed to be judgmental, right?   According to Matthew 7:1 we’re told “Do not judge, or you too will be judged”.  (New International Standard Version).   However, we also find this later on in the same chapter of Matthew, 7:15-16:  “Watch out for false prophets.  They come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.  By their fruit you will recognize them…”

So, is there an apparent contradiction in scripture?   No.   Let’s put both verses into context.  In the 7:1, Christ is telling believers to avoid unjust criticism or gossip of individuals.  In the second verse(s), Christ is making it clear that we all have the ability to know  and even call out false prophets and hypocritical teaching.

A Christian who claims to be a liberal/progressive is therefore to be know by the “fruits” of what they not only believe in but what those beliefs can lead to.  Some of those “fruits” are:

-abortion (Remember when Obama was interviewed by Pastor Rick Warren and was asked if life began at conception?   His answer was that the question was “Above my pay grade.”   That’s all most of us needed to know about Obama personally and the Democrats in general.)
-illegal aliens flooding the country (We’re supposed to have a border and laws to protect it)
-the IRS scandal (self explanatory)
-current race relations (Granted, a lot has been written about this lately, but it seems like Dr. King’s concern for “content of character” no longer matters.)
-anti-military (Not only is the military being gutted, but look at the V.A. scandal.)
-the welfare state (More Americans on food stamps and other government handouts under Obama than before Obama.  Heck with the work ethic.)
-ongoing, too long list of hypocritical actions of college and university campuses against conservative students and professors
-anti-2nd Amendment (Too bad it’s actually the law of the land, liberals don’t want law abiding Americans to protect themselves.   Let’s ignore the fact that criminals have a tendency to ignore gun laws.)
-anti-1st Amendment.  (The examples here are legion, but Memory Pizza in Indiana is definitely a good example.)
-Obamacare (Again, self explanatory.)
-anti-religion (Actually, just anti-Christian….)

And this is just a short, partial list.

Let’s discuss this last one just a bit further.  Back during the Democrats’ National Convention in 2012, they ended up booing God three times.  What happened was that a resolution was put forth before the assembled delegates to reinstate language that includes mention of God along with acknowledgment of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel to the official party platform.   It was put before a vote three times and each time during a voice vote, a sizable number of delegates booed the resolution.   A couple times during the broadcast, the TV camera cut to a group of Arab (Islamic) delegates booing against the resolutions inclusion.  (Not the first time the Lord has been denied three times….)

Personally, what I think happened here was that knowing the proceedings were being broadcast to a huge audience, convention chairman Antonio Villaraigosa, Mayor of Los Angeles, knew he couldn’t let the “nay” vote stand so he pushed the resolution through solely for appearance sake.   The overall actions of the Democrats (i.e. their “fruits”) prove their true feelings.   (Little Sisters of the Poor, demotion of Navy Chaplains, etc.)

Let me include a personal incident I’ve also had that speaks volumes about “Christian liberals”.

I’m guilty of actually paying attention to Facebook at times.  It is a good way to find old friends, but it’s also kind of addictive as well as a very easy way to get an argument started.  Case in point.  I encountered an old Christian musician friend of mine from years back that I had played bass for a couple of times.

When he asked what I was doing these days, I told him about my musical activities and also mentioned these articles for ClashDaily.com.   All I told him was that it’s a conservative web site.  That’s all it took for him to hop on me with a bunch of stuff about how the Koch Brothers are financing the Republican Party and that the Tea Party is nothing but a bunch of radical anti-Americans.

I’m afraid I let him piss me off.  My response was “Why do you hate America?   I agree there’s too much money in politics, but lets talk about the Dem donors….Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Warren Buffet, etc.   And have you ever been to a Tea Party even?   I’ve been to a few and guess what?  There were professional types as well as blue collar workers and…gasp….a few blacks and several Hispanics.  A very radical group.”

He never responded back and won’t talk to me any more.   So much for another Christian liberal friend.

In all the reading that I do, I’m seeing a movement among many Christians.   People of faith have just about had it with liberal BS and are starting to stand up, loudly and strongly, whenever challenged.  Considering what’s happening to our brothers and sisters in Islamic countries, we still have the ability and opportunity to fight back.  We need to start now, all the while standing on another scripture from Matthew’s gospel:  “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves.   Therefore, be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.”   (Mt. 10:16)

The fruit that freedom loving Christians can bring will allow us to take our freedoms back, while helping others when we can, and all the time refusing to be a doormat for liberals.  So call me judgmental if you wish, but I’ve had it with Christians who blindly follow the liberal agenda and talking points.   I’m not alone in this, so let’s all pray for the wisdom  to be “shrewd…and innocent”.
