A month after dealing with massive protests and riots in the wake of the murder of Freddie Gray while in police custody, Baltimore is dealing with another major problem.
May 2015 is now the deadliest month the city has seen in 15 years, since December 1999.
So far in May, there has been 35 murders – and the month is not over yet.
According to CNN, council member Mary Pat Clarke thinks that the April riots are what has caused the upswing in the murder rate.
‘It was an earthquake kind of time, and I think we’re still dealing with the aftershock,’ said Clarke.
Meanwhile, an officer who spoke with the network says that police have been coordinated a ‘work slowdown’ due to a lack of confidence in their superiors and the force’s chain of command.
