IS IT COMING TRUE? Beat Poet’s Prediction: ‘We’ll Get You Through Your Children’
In his 1999 book, Ex-Friends, conservative author Norman Podhoretz recalls his falling out with enthusiastic Stalinist apologist Lillian Hellman, criminal celebrator Norman Mailer, and “Beat” poet, Allen Ginsberg. As I write on June 3, 2015, Mr. Ginsberg would be 89 today, a fact that is relevant because of the memorable line that Mr. Ginsberg screamed at Podhoretz during their last argument. Sadly, it appears that Allen Ginsberg’s word was absolutely correct. What did he say, and why should you care? Trust me: it will all be clear shortly. First, a little background.
Norman Podhoretz and his “ex-friends” had been part of what they liked to call “The Family,” a group of mostly Jewish intellectuals in New York in the 1950’s. He broke with them, in part, because of their relentless assault on traditional values. Think “Ward and June Cleaver.” Like all radical leftists, Allen Ginsberg was determined to destroy what he perceived as the oppressive values of those two and everyone who admired their lifestyle. Listen to Podhoretz’ own words about Ginsberg’s poetry, which he reviewed back in the 1950’s:
“Ginsberg shared with all the other writers of the San Francisco group ‘the conviction that any form of rebellion against American culture is admirable’ and that he too regarded ‘homosexuality, jazz, dope addiction, and vagrancy as outstanding examples of such rebellion.'”
Whoa! Perhaps you thought Barack Obama’s hatred for the suburbs and the idyllic lifestyle of married parents raising their children away from urban blight was original with him? C’mon now! You’re smarter than that. You know that this clown hasn’t had an original thought in his entire life! Guys like Allen Ginsberg celebrated this “counter-culture” lifestyle, and youngsters like Bill Ayers learned from them. Eventually, they went to infect the next generation with this pathology, as in Barack Obama.
And, yes, Allen Ginsberg was devoted to exploring his emerging homosexuality. In Mr. Podhoretz’ book, he apologizes for repeating some of Mr. Ginsberg’s recounting of his assignations, which are graphic and frankly disgusting.
Podhoretz went on to lament what the Beat Generation stands for, and what being against it stands for: “It even has to do with fighting the poisonous glorification of the adolescent in American popular culture.”
That last sentence brings us to today, and the threat that Ginsberg screamed at Podhoretz during their last encounter: “We’ll get you through your children.” And so, less than 100 years after Mr. Ginsberg was born, they have.
As we watch the Lame Stream Media celebrate what is actually a mental disorder on parade, the “transgendering” of “Caitlyn Jenner,” we see that by using the “poisonous glorification of the adolescent in American popular culture,” the late Allen Ginsberg and his ilk appear to have won. Through the sewer that is the popular culture we are mainstreaming pathology that not only is destructive to society. It is also destructive to those we claim to lionize for their “courage”.
Just last week, CNN reported that a formerly well-respected teacher was placed on leave for reading one of Allen Ginberg’s homoerotic poems to his advanced placement English class.
“We will get you through your children.” Is it too late to stop them?
