5 FAST FACTS: About The Oregon Standoff That You NEED To Know

If you don’t know what’s going down in Oregon, you should. Here are five facts to help you get up to date.

1. The protests began on Saturday in support of Dwight Hammond Jr. and Steve Hammond, two Oregon ranchers convicted of terrorism related charges for arson on Federal lands. According to the U.S. Attorney’s office:

A jury sitting in Pendleton, Oregon found the Hammonds guilty of the arsons after a two-week trial in June 2012.  The trial involved allegations that the Hammonds, owners of Hammond Ranches, Inc., ignited a series of fires on lands managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM), on which the Hammonds had grazing rights leased to them for their cattle operation.
