Monday, February 1, 2016, I breathed a small sigh of relief. Ted Cruz won the Iowa Caucus and so did Hillary Clinton. First let me address the Republican side of things.
While it was only a small victory in all that is to come in the next 30 days, it was at least a victory. It’s about time the conservatives did the right thing, and I pray they will continue to do so in the weeks to come. We might have a chance at winning the White House back this time.
Year after year, Republicans struggle to win big elections because they choose “middle of the road”, “moderate”, “electable” candidates in hopes of courting the middle. They back not so conservative candidates in hopes that “independent” voters will swoon and rush to the polls.
I’m not a political analyst, but in case the Republican Party ever calls to ask my opinion on this issue I’ll boldly tell them that this hunger to win “independents” is lunacy. The reality is that “independents” are liberals who are afraid to admit it. Therefore, when the party backs a moderate candidate; they are choosing to disenfranchise their base who would actually get out and vote for a truly conservative candidate that loves the constitution and loves conservative principles. Moderates may win primaries, but they don’t win general elections.
On the other side, I will admit that I do not like Hillary Clinton. She is a liar and a felon, and she should be in jail. However, the person who terrifies me more is Bernie Sanders. Would people in America really vote for him? I can see how he’d make a great president in a place like Sweden but not in America.
Simply put, where is everyone’s common sense? You can’t promise “free” everything without killing the middle class and destroying the rich who are the ones who provide jobs for everyone. “Free” is just another word for “tax hike.” Frankly, I don’t want the government to pay for my college education. I can say with great pride that I paid for my education. I worked hard to do so, and it is NOT anyone’s responsibility to do that for me. For that matter, I didn’t have to go to college. That was my choice.
The reality is that college, medical care, retirement, etc are not rights. They are choices. And when you force them on people as rights, then everyone who has money, the middle class and wealthy, will pay out the nose and our economy will crater and our standard of living will plummet.
So here is my advice to America. Let’s vote in Ted Cruz who is a true conservative who loves our constitution and our founding principles, and we’ll see America begin to thrive again.
