Fascist Liberals Won’t Allow You to Have THIS Hairstyle Because of ‘Cultural Appropriation’

You can’t make this stuff up. Remember when activist group Hollaback! released a video containing ten, count ‘em ten, hours of Shoshana Roberts walking the streets of New York in form fitting attire. Hollaback!’s plan was to put the video out there, take issue with the way heterosexual males reacted to the attractive Roberts, and then get everyone spun up in a tizzy over the non-issue. What a blow that would have been to sexism. Except that racially oriented activist groups took issue with the way men of color were depicted in the video. Seems they were a bit more – let’s say direct – in their critiques of Shoshana Roberts’ shapely form strutting down the sidewalk.

Was Hollaback! merely exposing sexism? Was Hollaback! racist? Liberals were befuddled – they didn’t know which ism to be more offended about. The same sort of thing just happened at San Francisco State University.

Cory Goldstein is a white guy attending San Francisco State University. Cory has dreadlocks. To him the dreadlocks he’s had since age 17 are “part of who I am. I believe they are powerful and helped amplify myself and helped me connect to this world”. That’s very millennial of Cory, relying on a hairstyle to feel power, a heightened sense of self, and connection with the world around him.

Guess who violently – as camera footage indicates, more violently than Corey Lewandowski’s treatment of Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields – challenged Cory Goldstein’s hairdo?

An African-American woman who may be a San Francisco State student. Cory’s exchange with the woman went like this:

Cory: “You’re saying that I can’t have a hairstyle because of your culture? Why?”

Woman: “Because it’s my culture. Do you know what locks mean?”

Cory then goes on to say something about dreadlocks originating with Egyptian culture before the woman grabs him while blocking the camera recording the altercation.

Even more so than the Hollaback! incident, this is a great – and hilarious – example of what happens when far-left weirdos inevitably collide. Is it racist for Cory Goldstein to have dreadlocks? Did she violate his cultural attachment to ancient Egypt no matter how remote that attachment might be? Liberals can and will happily chase their own tails just like they did with Hollaback! trying to figure it out.

What’s not so great is:

– Liberals aren’t going to stand up for Cory Goldstein and support his First Amendment right to free expression. Cory has that right and it includes his hairdo no matter how awkward his explanation for wearing dreadlocks. Liberals don’t like free speech though, so they won’t say anything about an African-American woman trying to deny Cory Goldstein’s freedom of expression.

– While Cory Goldstein is apparently well-versed in the history of the dreadlock, chances are he and his attacker lack any real awareness of western culture or history. Anyone who’s seen any number of man-on-the-street interviews knows that college campuses are full of people who think the Civil War happened in 1940, that America gained independence from France in 1986, when shown a picture of Joe Biden believe he’s a retired gameshow host, and think that Kanye West was a great guy for giving Paul McCartney his first big break in the music business. Chances are they have no idea who Samson was, or if they do, they think he’s an up and coming rap star and not the Old Testament figure who was powerless without his hair.

Worse is the woman’s idea of cultural ownership. Somewhere between the womb and #BlackLivesMatter she’s learned to believe that in America, ethnic sub-cultures can only be enjoyed by people from that specific sub-culture.

In other words, instead of an inclusive society in which all cultures are treated equally and as such are explored by people of other cultures, Cory Goldstein’s attacker would prefer we wall ourselves off behind hyphenations and stereotypical identities.

Suggesting a white guy can’t wear dreadlocks is as stupid as saying Cinco de Mayo should only be celebrated by Hispanic-Americans and preferably those of Mexican origin who understand that May 5th isn’t Mexican Independence Day but rather the commemoration of the Battle of Puebla. Or that African-Americans need to give up boxing, golf, ballet, opera and that the musical Hamilton give up it’s Grammy Award. White people need not attend Earth, Wind, and Fire concerts even though EWF has one of the best live shows in all of music (I saw them at the San Diego County Fairgrounds and was spellbound the entire show).

So what are we as a society going to be? An inclusive place? Or ethnocentric enclaves akin to the Balkans 20 years ago from sea to shining sea?
