Malia Obama is graduating from high school.
President Obama’s oldest daughter is set to receive her diploma from the private Sidwell Friends School on Friday, an occasion that is bringing the 17-year-old much joy and her famous father much sadness.
‘I’m not going to talk about the fact that my daughter leaving me is just breaking my heart,’ he said last week.
He also told Jimmy Fallon this week that he planned to bring sunglasses to the ceremony so no one could see him crying when his daughter – who he has called ‘one of my best friends’ – gets her diploma.
Malia meanwhile is said to be ‘very eager’ to leave the White House and start her new life out of the spotlight.
Malia Obama was just 10 years old and longing for a promised puppy when her family moved into the White House. During seven years of growing up in the public eye, she has gotten and shed braces, learned to drive and even spent brief stints away from her family.
