“I DIDN’T MEAN TO” Doesn’t Excuse Our Kids — Why Should It Excuse Hillary Clinton?
Hillary Clinton gets Off free and clear — no surprise!
As I am sure everyone has seen by now, the FBI is recommending that no criminal charges be brought against former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, for her conduct in that post. The basic concept is that no clear evidence shows she intended to violate the laws concerning highly sensitive government/military information.
FBI Director Comey stated, “Although we did not find clear evidence that Secretary Clinton or her colleagues intended to violate laws governing the handling of classified information, there is evidence that they were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information.”1 It amazes me that this kind of logic holds up. How is this legal? This is simply another sign that our nation has lost its moral compass. There are no moral absolutes.
My dad, when I was a child, taught me that stupidity or saying “but I didn’t mean to” would not keep my brother and me from the justice of the law in the event we broke a law we were not informed on. I distinctly remember his telling me about a young boy in his small community that was tortured, we would use the term “bullied” these days, by some older teens. One day they went too far and accidentally killed the boy. I will spare you the graphic details of how he was killed. But when those young men stood trial, the excuse that they did not know that their action would physically harm the boy did not hold up. “We didn’t realize what we were doing would actually kill him” was not justification.
So what kind of message are we sending our children and our citizens when the director of an organization that tracks down and protects us from, “international criminals” if you will, makes this kind of statement? Does this mean when my son says, “But I didn’t mean to hit her [my sister],” that he should not be punished? When a college student sexually assaults someone, are they off the hook because they just couldn’t help themselves? If I get pulled over for not buckling my seatbelt, will the officer buy my defense, “But I forgot.”? What kind of message is our presumptive Democratic presidential nominee sending to this nation?
I don’t know about you, but if laws and national safety mean so little to her, then perhaps she is not the best candidate for me. Even if you buy the rationalization of lack of intent and extreme “carelessness”; then, again, perhaps Hillary Clinton is a bit too careless to sit in the Oval Office as Commander in Chief.
