Middle America is the part of the United States that lies west of New York City and east of Los Angeles…it’s sometimes called “flyover America”. It’s that part of our country that all the politicians like to refer to as “the heartland” …but, for some reason, whenever really big decisions are made in Washington, the heartland is shunted off to the side and the majority of Congress is only interested in what the two cities on the coasts can do with, or for, the bill being proposed. Earlier in my working life I traveled through the Midwest and, back then, it was nice. It reminded me of how America was around the early part of the twentieth century. Honest people, friendly people…people whose handshake was their word. For reasons unknown to me all of that seems to have changed, and I can’t help but wonder if “modern communications” didn’t have something to do with it. Television came along and gave the middle of the country a look-see at the big cities and how people were doing there. Frankly, I’m not at all sure it was a good thing.
Twice, once in my lifetime (and once was enough) the German people have allowed their government to have delusions of grandeur to the point where nearly the entire world was embroiled in war. Now, there are stirrings again, but this time it’s not JUST the Germans! Most of the European Union (EU) is talking about a “national army”. Critics say that the creation of a European army, a long-held goal of European federalists, would entail an unprecedented transfer of sovereignty from European nation states to unelected bureaucrats in Brussels, the de facto capital of the EU. Others say that efforts to move forward on European defense integration show that European leaders have learned little from Brexit, and are determined to continue their quest to build a European superstate regardless of opposition from large segments of the European public.
I cannot shake the thought that, just maybe, there might be some stealth jihad behind all this talk of a national army. Liam Fox, a former British Defense Secretary said, “Those of us who have warned about Europe’s defense ambitions have always been told not to worry… We’re always told not to worry about the next integration and then it happens. We’ve been too often conned before and we must not be conned again.” Remember Neville Chamberlain? Oh wait, some of you might not be old enough to know about him. He went to see Adolph Hitler and came back with a signed paper that said that Germany was not thinking about war and proclaimed that there was peace in our time. That was one of the biggest hoaxes of all time! Another British official, Geoffrey Van Orden, a spokesman for the UK Conservative Party Defense said, “Creation of EU defense structures, separate from NATO, will only lead to division between transatlantic partners at a time when solidarity is needed in the face of many difficult and dangerous threats to the democracies.” Again, in my not-so-humble opinion, the specter of Islam is lurking in the shadows, just waiting to accomplish what Charles Martell, aka The Hammer, did not let them do centuries ago.
I would be remiss if I didn’t cover this, and I’m going to bet you a buck you never heard about it. The headline, on November 16, 2014, in the New York Daily News was 5-year-old white girl shot and killed by black males, Race hustlers silent. When a 300 pound 18-year-old black criminal gets shot and killed by a white police officer, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson can’t get to the scene fast enough. When a beautiful, innocent 5-year-old girl is killed by two African-American men, they are nowhere to be found. Five-year-old Laylah Petersen was sitting on her grandfather’s lap when she was struck and killed by a hail of gunfire on Milwaukee’s northwest side. Two suspects described as African-American males approached the house, which belonged to her grandparents and opened fire, killing Laylah. Milwaukee Police Capt. Eric Moore told reporters that the shooting was reported shortly after 6 p.m. According to Moore, the home was targeted, and police were searching for suspects. Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn, said two individuals approached the house and fired numerous times, with one bullet piercing a wall and striking the girl in the head. A woman who lives across the street from where the shooting took place said she heard about six shots before she called 911. Â Officers called to the scene entered the home and found the girl with a “devastating head wound. “Numerous evidence markers could be seen on the pavement in front of the home near an intersection cordoned off by crime scene tape as officers scoured the area for clues.
Oh…did you notice that the murder took place in “flyover America”? Maybe that’s why we never heard anything past the first day’s headline, eh?
Parting shot…now and then a thought crosses my mind that has absolutely nothing to do with anything about which I was talking…and this is one of those. Poetry, especially heartfelt poetry, should be read as a young person because old people tend to become emotional about it. Of course, young people don’t really understand the meaning of the poems many times. There are so many good ones just waiting for you.
