A burns surgeon in London is saying such attacks there are now ‘epidemic’. And just like Sweden has become the Rape capital of the world, London has become the acid attack capital of the world. Is this what London’s mayor meant about
And they’re now linking it to ‘gang violence’.
Dr Martin Niall, a burn surgeon at Mid-Essex Hospital, told National Public Radio (NPR) in the U.S. that acid attacks in Britain “are now at levels that one of my colleagues described as epidemic”.
He added: “Everyone, ourselves included, has been shocked by this emerging threat to public health.”
In terms of attacks per head of population, London is now the acid attack capital of the world, with a 74 per cent rise in assaults — from 261 to 454 — between 2015 and 2016. — Breitbart
How bad is it?
Hundreds of attacks have already been logged for the first few months of 2017. Twelve people suffered burns and in some cases lost their vision after an attack in a Hackney nightclub at Easter, and two moped-mounted teens attacked five people around London in under 90 minutes in a July crime spree.

“We have a ‘gangs matrix’ we use for intelligence-led policing. There are around 3,000 gang members on it. When we do a comparison with suspects we know, some are appearing on that matrix, so there is an emerging link between gangs and acid attacks,” he said.
Referring to the mode of transport often used in attacks, West added: “With those using it [acid as a weapon] on mopeds, they may not be in a defined gang but that doesn’t stop them being part of an organised criminal network.”

There have been hundreds of such attacks. The victims are left disfigured and often blinded.
While perpetrators are not confined to any one community, between 2011 and 2016 attacks in London tended to be concentrated in areas which have experienced high levels of immigration.
Newham, Barking and Dagenham, and Tower Hamlets — all of which are minority White British — topped the list for total attacks in the period:

They were quick to ascribe ‘hate crime’ to the attacker of the Muslim victim of one recent attack.
No word whether any of those being charged are Muslims, or whether their attacks ALSO qualify as ‘hate’.
Because if there is a link between the race and/or religion of the attackers, seeing attacks against Islam could at least plausibly have an Alternate explanation besides ‘hate’. It could be anger arising in a population that feels both endangered and thrown under the bus by politicians and the legal system.
A tit-for-tat response is much different than merely randomly splashing acid.
Any idea why the religion of the Victims is being reported, but the religion and nation of origin of the attackers were not?
