Times sure have changed in a generation. It used to be that a fight between two girls was comical, not lethal.
Maybe it was the same where you went to school.
If there’s a fistfight in the schoolyard, it’s interesting — exciting, even — but not really newsworthy.
They would fight. They get up. They wipe the blood off their lip, and then go their way.
It might get talked about the next day. It might not.
A fight between girls was another matter. It was like a 4-leaf clover or Haley’s comet. People have seen them, but they’re pretty rare.
But back then, unless she had brothers in her family, and had learned to fight back, that was a big change from the haymakers and fierce grappling we might expect to see when guys went at it.
Usually, it meant hair pulling, scratching, slapping, and general ridiculousness the guys found funny. We even had a name for it: catfight.
Todays’ girls are different.
Especially in this story.
Where they’re not just mean, but lethal.
A bullied teenager has been stabbed to death at a Dunkin’ Donuts after standing up to her tormentors by pepper spraying them.
Valaree Megan Schwab, 16, died in hospital after being attacked which occurred at 12.30pm in New Rochelle, New York, on January 10.
Z’Inah Brown, 16, has been arrested for her death. She allegedly used a steak knife to stab Valaree twice in the upper torso.
Students at the pair’s high school told ABC News Schwab was being bullied by Brown and others at the Dunkin’ Donuts.
There were five or six teenagers in the group that ganged up on Valaree which included both boys and girls, police said.
Schwab tried to fight them off with pepper spray after being harassed by them on the 10-minute walk down which ended at the Dunkin’ Donuts.
None of the other teenagers present have been identified. It is not clear how long they had allegedly been bullying Valaree.
After the attack, Z’Inah fled the scene, leaving Valaree behind.
She was taken to hospital in the Bronx but was later pronounced dead.
It wasn’t enough that they stabbed her? TWICE?
They had to let her bleed out, too?
The victim did the things she was ‘supposed’ to do. She brought pepper spray as a deterrent for the gang of young punks that had been harassing her.
Little did she know, she was bringing pepper spray to a knife-fight.
Knowing what we know now, what argument would anyone offer against her having the benefit of the Second Amendment to protect her in this situation?
It would have made an assailant think twice about shanking her.
Becuase even if she took a hit, she could still fight back. And the sound of a gunshot might have alerted authorities to the scuffle and saved her life, even if she did get stabbed.
But at this point, the conversation is academic, isn’t it?
Better to have one and not need it, than need it and not have it.
The men and women in law enforcement that serve and protect us are commendable, but the response time means that they don’t get there when the bullets are flying.
Are you willing to wait 20 minutes for the police to show up?
It’s an issue that needs to be discussed within our churches and addressed by our church leaders.
We need some righteous badassery in the church to protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our brothers and sisters in Christ from the preventable evil in this world.
We need to Obey Jesus.
Including what he said in Luke 22:36.
He [Jesus] said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one.
