With friends like him… who needs enemies?
He set out to bully Publix into supporting a cause of his own choosing as ‘punishment’ for having supported the ‘wrong’ candidate — as though anyone needs his permission to be involved in the political process.
With tactics that would have made Capone proud, he issued his ultimatum to Florida’s employee-owned grocery chain, Publix.
They did a ‘die-in’ to coerce them into giving a Million-dollar donation to a charity of Hogg’s choosing.
It bears a striking similarity to what the Mafia would call a ‘protection racket’.
See that story recounted here:
Extortion: Famous Gun-Grabber Just Issued A Million-Dollar Demand To This Major Grocery Chain
Just like the Laura Ingraham boycott, which gave her a net boost in popularity… Hogg’s attempt to manipulate Publix had some… unintended consequences.
Publix, the grocery store chain, had donated heavily to Republican Adam Putnam, who is a staunch NRA supporter, but the chain also donated to at least two dozen candidates for federal office who opposed the NRA. The Washington Times reports that the company has given over $760,000 to Democratic candidates since 2008 that oppose the NRA:
They include multiple members of the Black Congressional Caucus, former Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Sens. Michael Bennet of Colorado, Richard J. Durbin of Illinois, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Patty Murray of Washington, Bill Nelson of Florida, and Ron Wyden of Oregon…
…[they] also chipped in for presidential candidates former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernard Sanders in 2016, as well as then-Sen. Barack Obama in 2008.
Florida Today, which is part of the USA Today Network, reported that one of the biggest winners to come out of Hogg’s boycott is Putnam — the very candidate that he sought to destroy:
It’s hard to calculate the media exposure, statewide and nationally, that came his campaign’s way. If you didn’t know anything about him before, you probably know more about him now. If anything else, out of allegiance to Publix, Putnam’s campaign likely will be goosed some because of the controversy.
Who else might Hogg’s stunt hurt financially?
In the presidential contest, Publix donated more to Mrs. Clinton than Republican Donald Trump, with $6,523 to her candidacy and $4,941 to his, along with $3,764 to the Sanders campaign.
In addition, the grocery chain has made charitable contributions to the YWCA, which belongs to the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, according to the conservative corporate watchdog 2ndVote.
Publix has contributed to United Way chapters and Susan G. Komen, which support Planned Parenthood, as well as the pro-life Salvation Army and Catholic Charities. The company statement said Publix would temporarily cease political contributions but did not mention donations to nonprofit groups.
Following the Parkland shooting, companies including Avis, Hertz, Enterprise and United and Delta airlines ended their discount programs for NRA members after coming under pressure to cut ties with the gun-rights giant.

Rules For Radical Christians is not a survival devotional designed to help the young Christian adult limp through life. Rather, it is a road-tested, dominion blueprint that will equip the young adult with leadership skills and sufficient motivation to rise to a place of influence in an overtly non-Christian culture. Rules For Radical Christians gives the reader the keys to become strategically equipped to move into an anti-theistic environment and effectively influence it for the glory of God.
