Elijah Was A Biblical Badass – Be Like Elijah

Elijah wasn’t BORN a major prophet — he was only called that AFTER he stood up and kicked a serious dent in Satan’s backside.

Where does someone like Elijah come from, anyway?

Did he go to the ‘right’ school? The ‘right’ family? The ‘right’ tailor?

Nope. He probably didn’t even have the kind of orating style that stretches Jesus into a three-syllable word.

Instead, Elijah appeared on the scene fresh out of the obscurity of ‘Never-heard-of-ya’. And he proceeded to live the kind of life where they couldn’t HELP but know his name.

It wasn’t because Elijah was a good self-promoter, but because his deeds were saturated with a boldness that comes only from time spent alone with the Author of Life.

Did he follow some established and accepted ‘career track’ of the ‘school of the prophets’? No.

And it’s a good thing he didn’t. Because Elijah’s call required walking a different path than the ordinary, well-worn track of mediocrity.

If he had hooked up with that crowd, who knows? Maybe he’d have become another play-it-safe nobody.

Elijah was a Threat and a Hazard to the corrupt and the status quo. Here’s the takeaway:

1. Don’t let your obscure origins define you.

Be who you are called to be, instead of who life’s spectators tell you to be.

2. Don’t measure your calling against the callings of others.

If you’re called to blaze a new trail, to be a strong voice confronting powerful cultural forces over a contentious issue, do a thing that nobody’s ever done before — get out there and swing for the fences!

Elijah was a relative ‘nobody’ whose life blazed so brightly that authors in the New Testament, roughly 1000 years later, had to remind their readers that he was not made of different stuff than the rest of us, but was just another ordinary Joe. An ordinary Joe with an unflinching boldness to stand with an extraordinary God.

Maybe an ordinary Joe — like you.
