Midterms: No Matter Who Wins, Dems Will Double-Down On Toxic Politics

No matter how the mid-term elections turn out, the result will be toxic for the country.

If Democrats achieve their so-called blue wave, they will view it as validation of the hysteria they’ve peddled under the Star Wars-derived heading “the resistance”, since January 20, 2017.

If it’s a “red tide” for the GOP (“red tide” was no doubt purposely selected by the media given red tide has negative connotations in environmentalist circles), Democrats will double down. That means two more years of ever more hysterical hysterics, which doesn’t do anyone any good.

Isn’t it weird.

The Democrats actually could win an upset victory versus Trump in 2020 if, instead of doubling down, they came to their senses. Look who their stars are today: Ocasio-Cortez, Corey Booker, Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, and yes, Hillary Clinton who may go for a three-peat in 2020 with yet another Presidential candidacy.

Ocasio-Cortez is the Democrat’s best and brightest. That’s not my analysis. That’s the glowing coverage media sources left of center are giving the know-nothing from New York. She is running in a congressional district so blue Barack Obama himself could call himself a Republican and lose in an election against her. There are snowballs in hell with better chances than Ocasio-Cortez of ever becoming anything more than a national media darling – she’ll likely shrink into obscurity once she makes it to Congress.

Booker, Harris, and Biden? Refer back to my snowball comment in the preceding paragraph.

As was the case in 2016, for 2020 there is a Democrat that could beat Trump. His name is Governor Hickenlooper. He hails from Colorado and represents a unique thread of centrism that bridges gaps across the proverbial aisle. Like Jim Webb, who could have dominated 2016, Hickenlooper won’t make it more than three months into the primaries.

Fun fact, the DNC already knows who they want to emerge as the party’s candidate for 2020. That’s why certain Democrats – Harris, Booker, Warren, Gillibrand – have been especially mouthy as of late. Their 2020 dream team will include at least one woman and at least one person of color. Clinton-Booker. Harris-Warren. Gillibrand-Harris. Vice versa and et cetera.

All that said, it sounds like Trump ought to have a clean sweep in 2020. Unless it becomes a three-way race.

There are two reasons Bill Clinton became President in 1992. In 1988, with a scandal emerging, Bill Clinton was smart enough to throttle his Presidential ambitions down and avoid a Gary Hart-style scandal. The only reason he won in 1992 was because H. Ross Perot ran in 2016. (It’s interesting to note Perot’s campaign, although independent, was a lot like the one Trump ran to win in 2016.)

If someone like the most aptly-named Senator in U.S. History Jeff Flake runs as a third party candidate versus Trump and the Jack Ass Party candidate, chances are the Democrats take the White House in 2020. In the aftermath of 2018, how toxic will that be?
