Guess what, AOC, there’s a downside to being a Media Darling — when you screw up, the whole world knows it.
Like getting fined for failing to protect your employees properly.
The same person who thinks that EVERYONE should have should government-administered single-payer health care didn’t even provide workers’ compensation coverage for her own employees.
She got slapped with a fine for failing to do so.
If this were a story about an ‘evil Republican’ it would be presented as proof positive that big-bad-Republicans don’t really care about the little people. But don’t expect any hit pieces on the Left this time — this story is about a ‘rising star’ from the Democrats.
Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s 2018 congressional campaign was fined by the state of New York for failing to provide the proper workers’ compensation coverage to campaign staffers.
“The employer did not have the required workers’ compensation coverage from March 31, 2018 to April 30, 2018,” Melissa Stewart, the spokeswoman for New York’s Workers Compensation Board, told The New York Daily News. “[It] was issued a final penalty of $1,500, which was paid.”
“This coverage is vital to ensuring workers are protected for on-the-job injuries,” Stewart continued.
The self-proclaimed Democratic socialist has been portraying herself as a champion for workers’ rights. During her campaign, she advocated for a $15-an-hour minimum wage and a Federal Jobs Guarantee because according to her website, “anyone who is willing and able to work shouldn’t struggle to find employment.”
Interestingly, the progressive congresswoman bemoaned in August the closing of a restaurant where she was previously employed — however, the restaurant cited an Ocasio Cortez-endorsed policy as a partial reason for its closure.

Uber has taken in $12 billion in investment and had revenues of $1.7 billion in Q4 of 2016.
Yet their drivers only take home $3.37 an hour.

It’s perfectly valid for her to hold OTHER people’s feet to the fire, because of big bad business mistreating their workers.
But when they work for her, she should get the benefit of the doubt? What, rules only apply to the OTHER people?
In that case, maybe she DOES understand Socialism after all.
She’s already starting to sound like a proper Bolshevik.
