Dear CNN: Five House Dems Took $60K Gift To See Beyoncé Perform In Africa — Is That News?

Five Democrats took a lobbyist-funded trip worth $60K halfway around the world in the name of … Global poverty?

This gift they got from lobbyists came to about $12K per elected Representative. That works out to about 20% of the household income of the average American. Was this an ethics violation?

“These members of Congress that were given an all-expense paid vacation to party with Oprah, Jay Z, and Beyoncé in South Africa are claiming with a straight face this was needed to help poor children around the world live better lives,” Tom Anderson, president of the NLPC’s Government Integrity Project, told Examiner. “This was in fact, a mockery of House ethics rules on gifts and travel, the truly poor, and all Americans that expect members of Congress to live not only by the letter of the law but by the spirit and intentions of the rules of the House of Representatives.”
…The lawmakers were U.S. Reps. Gregory Meeks of New York, Barbara Lee of California, Bobby Rush of Illinois, Terri Sewell of Alabama and Hank Johnson of Georgia, according to the data.

It just ‘happened’ to feature a Beyonce concert and a chance to hang with celebrity A-listers. What, are Beyonce’s tours in America suddenly so infrequent that they can’t manage to buy their own tickets?

To twist the knife even further, these five members of the Black Congressional Congress went to South Africa on a trip celebrating the work of Nelson Mandela in the same year that South Africa is responding to ONE racial injustice by instituting another in its place. Don’t expect them to have spoken out on that issue at all. Especially since this trip was on someone ELSE’S dime.

South African president Cyril Ramaphosa has just begun the process of seizing land from his own citizens, without compensation, purely due to their skin color. That’s far more racist than anything Donald Trump has ever done, of course, but elites in America barely even care. Source: FoxNews

Wouldn’t Mandela be proud that they’re following Zimbabwe’s lead now? And that plan has worked out so very well for the people of Zimbabwe, too.

On first thought, you might be glad to say they didn’t stick the taxpayers with the bill like Pelosi did…
Dear CNN: Report Says Pelosi Pelosi Charged Air Force $200K To Fly Her Around – Is That ‘News?’

And yes, it’s good that it didn’t come out of tax dollars. But if they get such a generous ‘gift’ from a lobby group, can we really expect them to be motivated by AMERICAN interests in their policy-making and not the people who just lavished them with an expensive vacation?

That’s not even an explicitly Republican objection. There is no free lunch, right? Wasn’t that the whole point of AOC’s ‘lightning round’ speech, too?

Here they all are hanging with the race hustler himself, ‘Rev-er-und Al’:

We know that the guy who worried about the Island of Guam capsizing was, shall we say, “suspect” in his judgment to begin with. But have he and the others been bought? Will they now be recusing themselves from voting on Poverty issues?

Yeah, I thought not.

Let’s not forget this when they all come up for reelection.

And until then, let’s see the ethics committee revisit the details.

Not that we’re holding up much hope there. This was, for some reason ‘pre-approved’. And even ‘Spartacus’ proudly flaunted the Senate’s own rules (or at least claimed to) and got away with it.
