Do you think today’s tepid cultural church-ianity really is as good as it gets? Not. Even. Close.
We live in a corn-fed culture where the majority of cultural christians couldn’t be counted on to Crush Candyland, let alone Conquer Cannan.
But we were made for and called to bigger things.
The real change starts with men living up to their high and holy calling.
John Wesley lived in a country as broken and backslidden as any our whiny generation could point to, and he changed his world. What was his secret? Here’s a quote:
Give me one hundred preachers who fear nothing but sin and desire nothing but God, and I care not whether they be clergymen or laymen, they alone will shake the gates of Hell and set up the kingdom of Heaven upon Earth.
Pretty ballsy, huh? It was. But he and his buddies got the job done. The nation saw a revival.
His wasn’t the only one. Time and again, we saw bold believers take a stand for what really matters, stepping up. Paying a price.
Hashtaggers on social media throw around the phrase #TheStruggleIsReal They don’t know how right they are. The church is locked in an ongoing battle with an unrelenting foe.
When Christian men desert the fight, we lose ground to hostile forces. That has real-world consequences. Look around at our crumbling culture if you’re wondering what they are.
If you want to see what that looks like, look to Europe or our Universities — many of which were first established as Christian Seminaries.
We know that Christ will win the fight… in the end.
But not every generation will be found faithful in the process. Will ours be — like David — ‘Faithful in our generation’?
