Two Years Tainted By Lies

Written by Bill Thomas on March 27, 2019

The long-awaited Mueller report was sent to the Justice Department last week. Democrats, progressives and their media allies waited eagerly. Finally, they hoped, their dream would be realized and President Trump’s demise and walk of shame away from office would begin. Can you imagine what they must’ve felt as the words were read, ‘The investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.’

Wow! After more than two years of hearing Democrats and liberal media accomplices cry ‘Collusion,‘ the truth emerged. There was no collusion on the part of the president or anyone in his campaign. That had to be tough for quite a few to hear.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) repeatedly over the last two years assured Democrats that they had the goods on the president, reported in January of 2019, ‘there is clear evidence on the issue of collusion.

Rep. Maxine Waters, (D-CA), in September of 2017, claimed, ‘I guarantee that he is colluding with the Russians to undermine American democracy.’

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CN) told Chris Hayes of MSNBC in November of 2018, ‘The evidence is pretty clear that there was collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians.

Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) said on November 30, 2018, ‘I mean, it’s clear that the campaign colluded, and there’s a lot of evidence of that. The question is, was the president involved?’

John Brennan, former CIA Director and CNN contributor wrote in an August 2018 editorial for The New York Times, ‘Mr. Trump’s claims of no collusion are, in a word, hogwash.’

Vox headlined a June 11, 2018 story ‘There’s Actually Lots of Evidence of Trump-Russia Collusion. Matthew Yglesias then attempts throughout the article to argue for the certainty of ‘evidence of collusion.’

This is just a mere sampling. For two years the nation has been subjected to the constant barrage of incendiary and baseless attacks against a duly elected president. The television networks and some of the largest newspapers in this country spent endless hours and countless pages predicting, shaping and reporting that President Trump colluded with the Russians. He was compromised, they said and had to be impeached. They built a tower larger than Trump’s on that foundation.

How devastating it must’ve been for them to see that tower collapse. It seems to me, though, they knew all along it was built on lies. As I see it, they didn’t care. The truth never mattered. The Democrats and their media conspirators pursued these lies with the religious fervor.

Matt Taibbi, no conservative or friend of President Trump, in a March 25, 2019 article in Rolling Stone, noted that zeal. He wrote, ‘By not delivering the desired goods, Mueller is now being described as ‘The God that failed Democrats,’ by Edward Luce of the Financial Times.

As he summarizes his article, Taibbi excoriates the media saying, ‘For the commercial press to recapture any dignity after this collusion debacle, it has to at least start admitting to its role in artificially raising expectations in the last two years.

With respect to the issue of obstruction of justice, the Democrats and media continue the lie. The summary of the Mueller report notes, ‘while this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.’

Democrats and the anti-Trump media have focused on the three words ‘does not exonerate.’ They blithely ignore the first part. The report ‘does not conclude the President committed a crime.’ They also leap over the fact that Attorney General Barr and Assistant Attorney General Rosenstein, whom they’ve praised before, were told three weeks ago that Mueller wouldn’t state a decision. The Attorney General and the Assistant Attorney General have had three weeks to examine the evidence. They concluded that, ‘the evidence developed during the Special Counsel’s investigation is not sufficient to establish that the President committed an obstruction-of-justice offense.’

Did you hear that? The evidence is not there for obstruction of justice. If it had been, Mueller and his team would’ve reached that conclusion. The fact that they didn’t is clear that the evidence for it is not that compelling.

So, what do we make of all this?

First, it is easy to see that the country has been held hostage to an attack on our constitutional republic by those who believe themselves smarter than us. They hated the fact that we elected Donald Trump and were doing all they could to overturn it. As good as it has been in the first two and a half years of President Trump, imagine what might have been had this concoction of lies and deceit not dominated the discourse.

Second, the media and Democrats have been lying to you and me. Their hatred for the president and quite possibly us has blinded them to decency, honor, and truth. Don’t look for them to apologize. They won’t. It’s not who they are. They will continue to arrogantly attack, smear and lie about all who oppose their worldview.

Third, the Democrats and their media allies will not be held accountable. I suspect not one Democrat will lose his/her chairmanship. I don’t think any media jobs will be lost due to this debacle.

The only way that those who perpetrated this shame on our country will face any consequences is if we, the American people, ignore them and re-elect Donald Trump in 2020 and give the Congress back to the Republicans. As aggrieved as they are now, if that happens, it will be even worse.
