Franklin Graham Puts Preachy ‘Mayor Pete’ Buttigieg On Blast!

Written by Wes Walker on April 25, 2019

After Democratic hopeful ‘Mayor Pete’ took some free shots at Mike Pence while claiming to be the better Christian, Franklin Graham had something to say about Pete’s theology.

Before jumping right into what Franklin Graham had to say, let’s take a step back and explain what Graham was responding to.

Maybe you noticed that Pete Buttigieg (one of the gazillion 2020 hopefuls) had been taking free shots at the Vice President, accusing his traditional views on marriage of ‘harming’ people. Pete claims his same-sex marriage has ‘brought him closer to God’ and had been trolling Pence on the topic for weeks.

Trump’s German Ambassador (who is also gay) took him to task on his hypocrisy but Pete dodged the question.

“I’m not a master fisherman, but I know bait when I see it, and I’m not going to take it,” he said to thunderous applause during a town hall event hosted by CNN.

Though the crowd loved the mayor’s answer, it does not really do anything to dispute the criticism, which came specifically from U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell, who, like Buttigieg, is gay. Unlike Buttigieg, however, Grenell does not claim to dislike Pence, who is very pro-traditional marriage. On the contrary, the ambassador claims to be quite fond of the vice president.

“Mayor Peter has been pushing this hate hoax, along the lines of Jussie Smollett, for a very long time now, several weeks,” Grenell said in a recent interview on Fox News. “And I find it really ironic that Mayor Pete stayed silent about the so-called hate hoax on him and others during 2015, 2016, 2017 when Mike Pence was governor.”

He added: “There was total silence. It’s ironic that right about now when he’s starting his fundraising apparatus to run for president that he comes up with this idea and this attack.”

After Pence suggested that Buttigieg had an issue with the First Amendment, Pete turned it around saying:

“If me being gay was a choice, it was a choice that was made far, far above my pay grade,” Buttigieg said at an LGBTQ Victory Fund National Champagne Brunch in Washington earlier this month. “And that’s the thing I wish the Mike Pences of the world would understand. That if you got a problem with who I am, your problem is not with me — your quarrel, sir, is with my creator.”

Back to Grennel’s observations:

Pence, meanwhile, has remained mostly quiet, letting loose with only the occasional response, including that the mayor “knows better.”

Grenell, for his part, claims he is friends with Pence. He also claims the vice president “doesn’t have hate” in his heart.

Though I cannot speak for what is in the vice president’s heart, I can say that between 2013 and 2019, the only person to change was Buttigieg. Pence is still the same pro-traditional Christian he was when he occupied the Indiana governor’s mansion. It is Buttigieg who appears to have evolved on the matter of their relationship.

So, in response to Mayor Pete’s theological grandstanding and making moral pronouncements about God’s view of sexual morality on the National Stage, did you really expect someone like Franklin Graham would stay on the sidelines forever?

He weighed in on where ‘Mayor Pete’ is right, and also where he is way off base.

And while we’re on the topic of “Mayor Pete”…

He’s not exactly the uber-competent middle-of-the-road centrist he’d have us think. Could there be some reason he’s talking about how ‘woke’ he is, instead of his track record as Mayor of South Bend?

Rules For Radical Christians is not a survival devotional designed to help the young Christian adult limp through life. Rather, it is a road-tested, dominion blueprint that will equip the young adult with leadership skills and sufficient motivation to rise to a place of influence in an overtly non-Christian culture. Rules For Radical Christians gives the reader the keys to become strategically equipped to move into an anti-theistic environment and effectively influence it for the glory of God.
