When God Kicks Your Butt

If you’re wanting God to bless you, are you ready for what comes with it?

Or are you just asking for a divine blessing on your shopping list?

Because if you REALLY want God’s blessing, your life will change — and not always the way you are expecting.

Just ask Jacob, who walked away with his encounter with God — with a permanent limp. A real one, complete with a walking stick.

How seriously did Israel take that?

Enough that it changed the diet of the people of Israel:

Therefore to this day the people of Israel do not eat the sinew of the thigh that is on the hip socket, because he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip on the sinew of the thigh. Gen 32:31,32

Wow.

God’s idea of what your life looks like with his abundant blessing is as different from our meager hopes and expectations as a toddler’s tiny joys of ice cream and toy cars are from his parents’ hopes and dreams for his life.

But getting there means taking everything that goes with it… everything.

For Peter it meant a cross. For Paul it meant stonings and a day and a night in the deep.

For David Brainerd and Jim Elliot it meant dying young, but absolutely transforming the lives of untold numbers of people after him… and having generations of Christians take their lives as an example to be followed.

And what about us?

Are we ready to take on divine priorities for our lives, to dare ourselves to lean into that road less traveled? The one his Spirit beckons us to follow him on?

It could literally cost us EVERYTHING.

Then again, like the toddler in that sandbox, or the Apostle Paul, we may find that what we’re ‘leaving behind’ doesn’t matter to us that much after all.

Not in the light of what we’re being called to, anyway.

Are we willing and able to Trust God with our … everything? Because then he’ll be able to give us the kind of blessings HE wants to pour out on us, rather than the kind that would only feed our egos and idols.

Rules For Radical Christians is not a survival devotional designed to help the young Christian adult limp through life. Rather, it is a road-tested, dominion blueprint that will equip the young adult with leadership skills and sufficient motivation to rise to a place of influence in an overtly non-Christian culture. Rules For Radical Christians gives the reader the keys to become strategically equipped to move into an anti-theistic environment and effectively influence it for the glory of God.
