With his resignation and a new book coming out the Left was eager to hear Mattis snipe at Trump. They weren’t expecting him to jackhammer their ‘Scandal-Free’ golden boy.
One of the most controversial decisions of Obama’s presidency was the Iran deal.
Obama had to give up a HELL of a lot to make his Iran deal happen, and every new revelation makes that ‘deal’ he struck look even worse.
Prior be being Secretary of Defense under Trump, Mattis served as commander of U.S. Central Command under Obama and Biden. Mattis had predicted that Iran would continue to provoke the United States. Mattis’s warning went ignored, and when Iran committed an act of war on American soil, he was not told about it, and the United States never responded to it.
The duty officer at his Tampa, Florida, headquarters on Oct. 11, 2011 told him that the attorney general and FBI director had held a press conference to announce the arrest of two Iranians who had planned a bomb attack on Cafe Milano, a high-end restaurant in Washington that was a favorite of the rich and famous, including Saudi Arabia’s ambassador, Adel al-Jubeir.
As Mattis writes, “Attorney General Eric Holder said the bombing plot was ‘directed and approved by elements of the Iranian government and, specifically, senior members of the Qods Force.’ The Qods were the Special Operations Force of the Revolutionary Guards, reporting to the top of the Iranian government.”
Many pundits questioned the administration’s assessment that the Iranian government was involved in the plan. Despite Iran’s long history of overseas assassination plots, some observers were skeptical that the theocratic regime would attempt such an audacious attack.
Mattis is certain, however: “I saw the intelligence: we had recorded Tehran’s approval of the operation.”
Mattis writes, “Had the bomb gone off, those in the restaurant and on the street would have been ripped apart, blood rushing down sewer drains. It would have been the worst attack on us since 9/11. I sensed that only Iran’s impression of America’s impotence could have led them to risk such an act within a couple of miles of the White House, Absent one fundamental mistake — the terrorists had engaged an undercover DEA agent in an attempt to smuggle the bomb — the Iranians would have pulled off this devastating attack. Had that bomb exploded, it would have changed history.”
…“In my view, we had to hold Iran to account and strike back when attacked. But there was a reason for the administration’s restraint. The administration was secretly negotiating with Iran, although I was not privy to the details at the time.”

This puts Obama’s habit ‘bowing before foreign leaders’ in a whole other context. He was a weak man who spoke of ‘leading from behind’ as a good thing.
American lives and safety came second to his own grand plans.
That fits perfectly with what we know about how Obama shut down investigations into Terrorism and Drug Running that would have negatively impacted his negotiations with Iran.
It ALSO fits perfectly with what we know about how those concessions we gave Iran DID go to fund Iran’s favorite pet project: funding Terrorism, including terrorism with American targets.
You can’t say we didn’t warn him…
Obama’s critics on the right opposed the deal from the very beginning. Not only did we say they couldn’t be trusted to act in good faith (they have an annual celebration on Nov 4 where hundreds of thousands throng the street chanting Death To America), but we were concerned about what concessions we would have to give up in order to achieve his precious deal.
The planeload of unmarked cash that Obama flew to Iran in the middle of the night which we were solemnly promised was emphatically ‘not’ a ransom for the prisoners released by Iran — until it was.
We gave up a lot to secure that deal and got precious little in return. The planeload of cash was just the tip of the iceberg.
Obama wiped out all progress on some key investigations into Terrorism and Drug running that would have hurt Hezbollah. (Remember ‘Project Cassandra‘? It’s a lot more serious than any ‘Tan Suit’)

Under his watch, we looked the other way for Hezbollah, allowing them to become a Billion-dollar player in the Criminal cartel world, including the sale of sophisticated weapons (not to mention vast quantities of drugs sold on US streets).
In its determination to secure a nuclear deal with Iran, the Obama administration derailed an ambitious law enforcement campaign targeting drug trafficking by the Iranian-backed terrorist group Hezbollah, even as it was funneling cocaine into the United States, according to a POLITICO investigation.
The campaign, dubbed Project Cassandra, was launched in 2008 after the Drug Enforcement Administration amassed evidence that Hezbollah had transformed itself from a Middle East-focused military and political organization into an international crime syndicate that some investigators believed was collecting $1 billion a year from drug and weapons trafficking, money laundering and other criminal activities.
…The Justice Department declined requests by Project Cassandra and other authorities to file criminal charges against major players such as Hezbollah’s high-profile envoy to Iran, a Lebanese bank that allegedly laundered billions in alleged drug profits, and a central player in a U.S.-based cell of the Iranian paramilitary Quds force. And the State Department rejected requests to lure high-value targets to countries where they could be arrested.
“This was a policy decision, it was a systematic decision,” said David Asher, who helped establish and oversee Project Cassandra as a Defense Department illicit finance analyst. “They serially ripped apart this entire effort that was very well supported and resourced, and it was done from the top down.”

It opened up banking options…
Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, did not enter into Tuesday’s historic deal with six world powers to reset relations with the West. It was the promise of more than $100 billion in sanctions relief, rather, that greased the wheels of the recently completed diplomacy in Vienna. And though the windfall of cash will certainly strengthen its position, the real prize for Iran was regaining access to a little-known, but ubiquitous banking system that has been off-limits to the country since March 2012.
SWIFT, the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication, is the electronic bloodstream of the global financial system. It is a member-owned cooperative comprising the most powerful financial institutions in the world, which allows more than 10,800 financial companies worldwide to communicate securely. It’s hard to find a bank that doesn’t use SWIFT to communicate with other banks — unless, of course, you’ve lived in Iran for the past few years.

The money has already been used against us
Leading members of Congress suspect a portion of a recent $1.7 billion cash payment to Iran may have been used to help arm and support Yemeni terrorists who recently fired missiles on a U.S. Navy ship in the Red Sea, according to a new congressional inquiry that seeks to determine how U.S. taxpayer funds are being used by Iran to boost its global terror operation.
Iran is believed to have used a large portion of the $1.7 billion, suspected to have been paid by the United States as part of a ransom to free U.S. hostages, to fund its global terror operation and strengthen its military, according to conversations with lawmakers who told the Washington Free Beacon that U.S. taxpayer funds are likely being used to sponsor attacks on American military forces.
The weekend attack on the U.S. Navy by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels has sparked another official inquiry surrounding the cash payment to Iran, with a group of 17 senators now seeking to obtain an official assessment by the Pentagon of how Iran has allocated this cash to its military operations.
…[A letter from 17 then-Senators to Obama Admin Secretary of Defense And Joint Chief Of Staff Chair stated] “While we understand that other agencies and departments would be in the lead for such a transaction, we are deeply concerned that President Obama and the rest of the administration did not think it was necessary to even notify the secretary of defense or the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff that the United States was about to provide the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism with $1.7 billion in cash,” they wrote. “It seems clear that the Obama administration’s injection of substantial, liquid financial resources into Iran’s military budget also has significant and obvious implications for America’s national security interests and required military posture in the Middle East.”
