What Seems Right May Be VERY Wrong

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” Proverbs 14:12

Many, many things seem right to us today.

We once agreed it was wrong to kill babies. Today, it is called ‘reproductive justice.’ To millions of people it seems right to call it ‘a woman’s right to choose,’ but its end is the way of death: physical death for babies; spiritual death for women, for men, for children, and for entire nations.

God in the Judeo-Christian scriptures makes it very clear there is a special place in his heart for little ones (Matt. 19:13, 14). He makes it very clear he knows every person even before conception (Jer. 1:5, Ps. 139:13). He condemned ancient cultures guilty of infant sacrifice (Deut. 12:31, Lev. 18:21, 2 Kings 21:6, 2 Kings 3:27, Deut. 18:10).

Wisdom requires we face the truth, understanding that God’s Word is altogether true (Ps. 19, Heb. 4:12, Is. 40:8, Matt. 7:24, Matt. 4:4, John 1:1) and it is frequently contrary to our ‘understanding.’

God says his wrath will be poured out on all unrighteousness (Romans 1:18, Romans 2:5, John 3:36). He says those who spill innocent blood will be judged and condemned (Psalm 106). He urges us to turn from the way of death and trust Him (Matt. 4:17). God loves mercy. We are merciless when we allow babies to suffer horrific pain as they are dismembered.

Think for a moment. In the last century, the human race slaughtered more than 100 million human beings by war and its consequences. So far, it was the worst century in history: the way of death, thanks to our reliance on our understanding. In the last 50 years, worldwide, we have killed far more than 100 million human beings in the womb.

Do we really think God will turn a blind eye to this atrocity?

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.” (Prov. 1:7)

We once called ‘evil,’ evil, and ‘good,’ good. (God’s way.) We now call evil ‘good’, and good ‘evil’. (Our way.) It will take great courage for the faithful to stand for righteousness in future.

Have you noticed the list of things that seem right grows the more we lean to our own understanding? Have you witnessed reality: the more we lean to our own understanding, rejecting God, the more vile and cruel we become?

Do you think you can sin endlessly without consequences? Do you think God will grant you a special exemption? Oh! But you say, “I’ve never had an abortion. I’ve never paid for one! I’ve never urged anyone to have one.” Do you realize the government takes your tax money and pays for abortions? Have you ever contributed to Planned Parenthood? The government does! (PP sells baby parts, like cuts of beef.) Have you ever voted for a pro-abortion candidate? Have you compromised and backed away from taking a righteous stand by saying it’s a matter between a woman and her doctor? How about the sins of omission? Have you kept quiet when you should have spoken out against this great evil? Have you failed to support your local crisis pregnancy center? Have you failed to contribute to Christian law firms fighting for the Right to Life? Have you declined to advocate for pro-life legislation? Have you called your representatives in government urging them to protect babies in the womb? Isn’t it about time to take God’s Word seriously, and act on it!?

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Proverbs 3:5-6
