Lawyered Up: Hillary Called Tulsi Gabbard A ‘Russian Asset’ — Will She Apologize?

Written by Wes Walker on November 12, 2019

If Hillary thought she could just wait this out, like her other scandals she badly underestimated Tulsi Gabbard.

Whatever you may think of Tulsi Gabbard and her unorthodox policies, you can at least give her credit for having her own ideas and charting her own course. That’s a rare thing in politics. It’s not easy to buck party trends.

She has also answered her nation’s call to service.

So when Hillary, of all people, suggests that Tulsi has put her own ambitions at cross-purposes with the best interests of the nation for which she served, Tulsi has every right to be offended.

An outlandish claim like that had better have some kind of evidence to back it up. And of course, it’s Hillary, so there will be nothing to support the allegations. Hillary herself is little more than a past-her-prime smear merchant.

But Tulsi is not taking Hillary’s allegation that she is a Russian Asset lying down. She is demanding a public retraction.

A letter was sent to Hillary:

“In making the statement, you knew it was false. Congresswoman Gabbard is not a Russian asset and is not being groomed by Russia,” the letter said. “Besides your statement, no law enforcement or intelligence agencies have claimed, much less presented any evidence, that Congresswoman Gabbard is a Russian asset. This fabricated story is so facially improbable that it is actionable as defamation.”
The letter is part of Gabbard’s continuing pushback after Clinton appeared on the podcast Campaign HQ with David Plouffe on Oct. 17. During the conversation, Clinton said, “I’m not making any predictions, but I think they’ve got their eye on somebody who is currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third-party candidate. She’s the favorite of the Russians. They have a bunch of sites and bots and other ways of supporting her so far. And, that’s assuming Jill Stein will give it up, which she might not because she’s also a Russian asset. Yeah, she’s a Russian asset. I mean, totally.”

The following day, a CNN reporter asked a Clinton spokesperson if Clinton was talking about Gabbard, to which the spokesperson said, “If the nesting doll fits,” implying that the statement was indeed about Gabbard.

There are two ways to read this.

One is to agree with the cynical understanding that this is a desperate play to get some media spotlight for a struggling campaign in a news cycle that’s been so heavily dominated by Schiff’s sideshow act. The other is that she is sick of Hillary throwing darts with impunity and never having to pay a price for being, well, the Hildebeest.

Or… Why not both?

For those looking for a reason to believe the latter, all indications are that she IS a scrappy opponent that won’t give an inch.
