Life Imitates Art: ‘Mean Girls’ Broadway Actress Follows Right-Wingers On Twitter — Fans Are ANGRY

Written by K. Walker on February 13, 2020

“Mean Girls” on Twitter are rage-tweeting that an actress in a Broadway show follows the President on social media.

Life imitates art which imitates life. This story is so perfect… and perfectly awful.

As it has been made clear, the tolerant left isn’t so tolerant as they claim to be. Just like “The Plastics” — the popular-girl clique in “Mean Girls” — you must conform… or else.

That’s the lesson that actress Laura Leigh Turner might take if she checks her Twitter mentions.

It was recently announced that Turner will take over the role of Karen Smith in the Tina Fey musical adaptation of the 2004 teen comedy.

Laura Leigh Turner will make her Broadway debut when she takes over the role of Karen Smith in the hit musical Mean Girls beginning March 10 at the August Wilson Theatre.

She will succeed the role’s originator, Kate Rockwell, who will play her final performance March 8.

Turner is very excited to make her Broadway debut as Karen if you take a peek at her Twitter and Instagram accounts.

But some of the fans of the show… not so much.

It didn’t take long for people to start digging into her social media accounts and find Turner “problematic.”

Turner follows several prominent conservatives on Twitter and retweets many Christian accounts. That’s not surprising for a Christian girl from Arkansas. The problem is that she follows President Trump, Kellyanne Conway, Sean Hannity, Candace Owens, Ben Shapiro, as well as several pro-life accounts that has got some Twitter users agitated.

At least a few thought the whole “controversy” was idiotic.

Here’s the thing that many of these people are missing… Turner also follows several leftwing accounts.

Sure, she follows Tim Tebow, Tucker Carlson, and Fox News, but she also follows: Barack Obama, AOC, Buzzfeed NewsVox, The Atlantic, several Broadway actors, and the Alabama communications director for Mike Bloomberg’s campaign.

What does this mean? Exactly what the so-called “tolerant” left doesn’t want to admit — that conservatives are willing to hear other opinions and are much more tolerant of different viewpoints than they are.

As Jonathan Haidt wrote in his book, The Righteous Mind, conservatives understand liberals better than liberals understand conservatives. This is likely because we are bombarded on all sides with liberal ideology in Hollywood, the Media(D), and politics, and because don’t demand that they are censored for their views.
