BLM And Occupy Protesters Demand NYC Cut $1 Billion From Police Budget–Mayor de Blasio Complies

If you thought De Blasio had done a bad job before, just wait until the consequences of his policing decisions have a little time to ripen.

When confronted with massive marches in the name of BLM, after watching any number of squad cars burn, officers get hurt, and NYC properties looted, De Blasio has decided his course of action.

He has made a decision about those ‘heroes of COVID’ who themselves lost members while cubicle-jockeys and TV talking heads quietly worked from home as they sheltered in place: throw them under the bus.

Great plan, De Blasio. No wonder you are the mayor who has long since looked out on the turned backs of police officers whenever they would be assembled.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday that he’s come up with a plan to cut or transfer $1 billion from the NYPD’s $6 billion budget and would not guarantee the department’s headcount won’t shrink — even as shootings surge across the city.

…While Hizzoner offered few details about his spending cuts plan, he would not guarantee that the NYPD’s police force would remain at its current level of roughly 36,000 officers when pressed by reporters.

“We have found a plan that will keep this city safe, that will achieve the billion dollars in savings,” de Blasio claimed during his daily press briefing Monday. —NewYorkPost

That will ‘keep the city safe’? Council doesn’t buy it.

“We have caved to the mob in a moment we know will come back to haunt us,” Councilman Joe Borelli (R-Staten Island) told The Post. “The mayor is smart enough to know that these actions will create a more violent environment in New York.

“This is what you get when you have government-by-hashtag,” he added.

Borelli ‘s counterpart from Queens, Councilman Robert Holden, echoed the complaints.

“I’m against wholesale cuts based on protest signs,” the Middle Village Democrat said. “One billion dollars is an arbitrary number that the mayor and some of my colleagues are trying to reach to appease the masses without considering public safety.” —NewYorkPost

The stats are already showing that New York is on track to becoming a lot LESS safe.

And these number spikes happening are BEFORE the city has time to fully feel the effects of mass retirements, resignations, and funding cuts.
