Democrats in Congress didn’t think through the consequences of their little “kneeling” photo-op.
On Monday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi(D-CA), Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer(D-NY), and two dozen Democrat lawmakers made a big show of kneeling in for 8 minutes and 46 seconds–the same amount of time that George Floyd lay on the ground with the Derek Chauvin’s knee on his neck–in Emancipation Hall. It was a virtue-signaling move to draw attention to the Democrats new police reform bill in order to address the alleged “systemic bias” in police departments.
Some of the suggestions in the bill are not all that bad, actually, including banning the use of chokeholds and mandating the use of body cameras and dash cameras. Although there are some libertarians who would recoil at this–and I do to a degree–it’s a way that we can determine what happened between cop/civilian interactions without relying on bystander video. We all know how biased those can be as the ‘Covington kid’ video revealed.
But Pelosi and her crew have all joined the Congressional Black Caucus wearing their signature Kente cloths. Somehow that is not cultural appropriation, but an act of solidarity. Mmmmkayyyy…
Pelosi, who like other kneeling lawmakers was draped in a colorful Kente cloth scarf that pays homage to black Americans’ African heritage, spoke afterward of the “martyrdom of George Floyd” and the grief over black men and women killed at the hands of police.
“This movement of national anguish is being transformed into a movement of national action,” she said.
The Justice and Policing Act, introduced in both chambers of Congress, would make it easier to prosecute officers for abuse and rethink how they are recruited and trained.

But what happens when you get a bunch of elderly people together and have them kneel for 8 minutes and 46 seconds?
What you get is what looked like a revamp of the Life Alert commercial.

I’ll bet that Nancy wishes that the cameras weren’t rolling for that!
My favorite part is the unsteady, masked white-haired guy behind her coming to her aid. What the heck did he think he was going to do? Fall on her and break a hip?
She may have had plastic surgery to make herself appear younger than her ripe old age of 80 years, but she can’t botox her way out of that, can she?
