Veterans’ Day just might be precisely the right day to respond to this news story. We are at a fork in the road with two VERY different visions of the way forward for our nation.
One side holds fast to the Founding Documents and the freedoms enshrined therein. The other side would have us believe that the very foundation stones of the nation are corrupted and irredeemable.
One side believes that the center of gravity for political power should rest in the individual, and the state should be responsible to the citizen. The other side reverses that completely.
One side believes free citizens should be about to think as they like, believe according to their conscience, and freely associate with anyone they please.
The other side would rather set limits on what thoughts are politically correct, which beliefs are socially acceptable, and which of our associations are legitimate and otherwise.
One side uses persuasion to swell the influence of their political party. The other side uses compulsion, penalizing those who transgress whatever standards they have now decided to enforce with a range of possible outcome: public humiliation, removal from social media, loss of employment, destruction of personal property and, in a few cases, literal politically-motivated execution.
Anyone familiar with the arguments Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn made in his Nobel-Prize winning ‘Gulag Archipelago’ would easily recognize the dark roads this compulsion to control others can lead… and has already begun to lead us now.
AOC has called for the social media accounts of Trump-friendly persons to be logged for future undisclosed persecutions.
‘Complicity’. For what exactly?
For being anti-Progressive.
Are you now – or have you ever been – a member of any group supporting
Communism Donald Trump or his policies?
Hmmm. I think we’ve already seen where this story goes.
And now the Left developed a website to accomplish exactly that.
We should welcome in our fellow Americans with whom we differ politically.
But those who took a paycheck from the Trump Administration should not profit from their efforts to tear our democracy apart. The world should never forget those who, when faced with a decision, chose to put their money, their time, and their reputations behind separating children from their families, encouraging racism and anti-Semitism, and negligently causing the unnecessary loss of life and economic devastation from our country’s failed response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Coming together starts with acknowledging the truth: These individuals have shattered laws and norms that hurt our democracy, including right now, as they use the levers of government — DOJ, GSA and state officials — to subvert the fundamental underlying tenet that makes America what it is: The peaceful transfer of power from the loser of an election to the winner.
The are actively blacklisting anyone with any association to Trump.
The supposed ‘conservative’ group of grifters in the Lincoln Project went even further. They tried to dox the lawyers who had been working under Trump in his current court case.
Maybe this new crop of Democrats needs to familiarize themselves with an old quote.
“We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. We must remember always that accusation is not proof and that conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law. We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men – not from men who feared to write, to speak, to associate, and to defend causes that were, for the moment, unpopular”
