All I Want For Christmas

This is the time of year when lots of kids are writing and mailing their letters to Santa Claus. Their hopes and requests this year will be varied, ranging from the usual toys and electronic devices to the more eclectic gifts such as drones and pet nail-clippers.

It’s been a while since I’ve made a list like this, but this is a different Christmas season in just about every sense of the word. So, here’s my Christmas wish list.

First, I’m asking for a backbone and a whole lot of courage for Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and the rest of the Supreme Court. Like the Cowardly Lion of Oz fame, Chief Justice Roberts needs courage to step up and be who he’s been, at least until 2016. The Texas lawsuit, it seems to me, is the only chance we, the regular people, have to get a fair election outcome. The Court will have to take the case and hear it. While Roberts has lately become the fourth liberal justice, I’m thinking he may have influence in taking this case. Here’s hoping for a lion-sized dose of courage for the Chief Justice and the rest of the Court. Texas is, I believe, our last stand.

Second, I’m wishing for Republicans to act like Democrats for a change and hang together. The entire mess in Georgia, as I see it, stems from the fact that there are too many “Never Trump” members of the GOP in positions of authority. The Democrats don’t have to work nearly as hard as the Republicans to accomplish their goals. They often just have to get out of the way while we devour our own. Here’s hoping for unity among the GOP. As an ancillary wish, may it be that all “Never Trump” Republicans be banished from the party. They are not really for us. They are for themselves.

Third, I’m asking for the media’s comeuppance. This is a big wish, and I don’t think it will fit in any stocking I’ve ever had, but it sure would be amazing.  From Chris Wallace’s smarmy insistence on referring to Biden as “President-elect” to the childish and ridiculous Kacie Hunt tweet, “I’m just struck by the reality that we’ll now have a president who, as a rule, doesn’t lie, even when it might be easier,” the media has been kissing up to Joe Biden. We had to endure four years of disrespect for the duly elected President Trump.  Now, they can’t wait to shove the suspiciously “elected” Joe Biden in our faces. I know I may be a bit bitter, but Santa, if they could get their comeuppance for Christmas, that would be sweet.

I suppose that’s it for this list. That’s a lot, frankly. I don’t know if I deserve it, but it’s my list.

I do hope these things happen. I really do. Here’s my big wish. I pray that all who read this little column each week might know the hope that comes from knowing Jesus Christ, whose birth we prepare to celebrate. May you have peace from the Prince of Peace.

This is my Christmas wish list. What’s yours?
