Isaiah 5:20 says, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” This prophecy, expressed by Isaiah nearly 2,700 years ago, rings hauntingly true today. The truth is under attack by the Democrats, the media and the cultural left. Consider the following examples.
On February 4, 2021, the academic journal The Conversation published an article by Dr. Paul Braterman that asserts that the biblical account of creation is really a conspiracy theory that “meets all the criteria, offering a complete parallel universe with its own organizations and rules of evidence, and claims that the scientific establishment promoting evolution is an arrogant and morally corrupt elite.”
Many people around the world looked on aghast as they witnessed the harm done by conspiracy theories such as QAnon and the myth of the stolen US election that led to the attack on the US Capitol Building on January 6. Yet while these ideas will no doubt fade in time, there is arguably a much more enduring conspiracy theory that also pervades America in the form of young Earth creationism. And it’s one that we cannot ignore because it is dangerously opposed to science.
This is a bold assertion that strikes at the heart of religious faith for many people around the world. It might seem to be an outlier, something that is on the fringe of left-wing thought. The truth is, though, the left is becoming more brazen in their attempts to redefine truth and compel obedience.
An ad, sponsored by Jeep, during the Super Bowl is another, subtle way to recast truth. Bruce Springsteen was featured at a church in Kansas intoning that it was time to “reunite America.” The ad has been rightly attacked as offensive, but more than that, it is simply recasting the truth.
Mollie Hemmingway notes the incongruity of the ad as she notes, “For 74 million Trump-voting Americans who lived through four years of epithets and refusal by elites such as Springsteen to treat the president of the United States as legitimate, it’s not hard to see why the ad is going over like a lead balloon. One reason the middle has been a hard place to get to is because of wealthy and powerful people like Springsteen spewing hatred toward Republican presidents and their voters dating back to the 1980s.”
Truth is also being battered in the U.S. Senate. Today the second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump began. It was difficult to hear the House managers deceptively claim the former president was guilty of insurrection. There is not a shred of evidence for that claim. In fact, the truth is that he did no such thing. Truth, though, is not sacred to the Democrats. What matters is the outcome. They want Trump and his supporters punished. They will not be content until that happens.
From faith to politics, the truth is under attack. Abraham Lincoln once said, “I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts.” Unfortunately, the Democrats are doing all they can to destroy the truth.
