Merrick Garland was Obama’s pick to replace Justice Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court. Boy, did the country dodge a bullet there!

But don’t worry, President Biden, who is committed to creating the Obama Administration 2.0, is bringing back Merrick Garland to a position of prominence — he’s appointed him to head up the Department of Justice.

Garland’s confirmation hearing to become the new Attorney General was filled with some eyebrow-raising moments. This was no exception.

When he was asked about illegal border crossings by Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO), Garland won’t definitively say if he thinks it’s a good idea to consider illegally crossing the border a crime or if the Justice Department with him at the helm would enforce it as a crime.

This man was the Chief Judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and he… doesn’t know if he thinks unlawful entry into the United States should be considered a crime?! He hasn’t even thought about it?!

How can he not have thoughts on this as a judge? Illegal crossings at the southern border is a HUGE issue and he’s just shrugging?! Give me a break!

Garland was also apparently unaware that drug cartels were gaming the asylum system to tie up the Department of Homeland Security with bogus claims.

No, for real. He really admitted that he was ignorant of this.

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) asked Garland if he’d ever been to the southern border, which he said that he hadn’t. Sen. Graham asked about the way that drug cartels are gaming the system to their advantage.

GRAHAM: I’d like you to go because I just got back and I learned that drug cartels are using our asylum laws against us. They will collect people to sort of rush the border and once they are apprehended and most of these claims, 90 percent are rejected. And that will take resources away from securing the border and detecting drugs and protecting the nation against terrorism. This is a behavior by the cartels. Will you look into that practice of using asylum claims by drug cartels to weaken border security?

GARLAND: I had not known about this and I will certainly look into this problem. I think the drug cartels are a major menace to our society. The poison that they put into our streets is damaging communities of every kind.

Reminder: This man was a federal judge and Obama’s pick for SCOTUS.

He started off the hearing by committing to fighting domestic terrorism.

But it’s not what you think.

Here, Garland says that the Antifa attacks on the federal courthouse in Portland may not be considered domestic terrorism because they happened at night.

I guess it’s that obscure Domestic Terrorism Can’t Happen At Night clause. (Before we get labeled “dangerous and derogatory content, that clause doesn’t exist. This use of language is what humans call sarcasm.)

Does that mean that if the Oklahoma City bombing was done at night it wouldn’t have been considered domestic terrorism?!

That’s absolutely ridiculous!

He was asked about all sorts of things, including SypGate — the Mueller Report, the Horowitz investigation, the FISA warrants, and even about the FBI under James Comey.

There’s one thing that we learned about Merrick Garland from this first day of the confirmation hearings — there’s a whole lot that he just doesn’t know.

This guy has bipartisan support and is very likely going to be the Attorney General of the United States.

God help us all!
