When you’re on the farm, ‘nature calls’ can mean something very different.

It’s no secret that the life of a farmer is not an easy one. You don’t get days off. The animals need to be taken care of whether you feel like it or not.

They don’t know — or care — if you have other plans, no matter how special they are. When duty calls, you just show up.

When a cow went into labour during a wedding reception on an Australian farm, the bride didn’t think twice before springing into action in her silvery white gown.

Farmer Jessa Laws ditched the dance floor and got down in the mud, dress and all, to help her cow deliver its calf.

“When there’s a cow that needs help calving, you drop everything to go and help,” she told As It Happens host Carol Off.

“I didn’t even think about my guests. Didn’t think about my dress, that’s for sure. I headed straight down to the dairy.” —CBC

The cow — fittingly named Drama — was a couple of days overdue by the time the wedding day rolled around, so the bride took proper precautions. She had a neighbor friend keep an eye on how well the overdue cow was doing.

Word got back to her, early in the evening, that Drama had begun labor and there were ‘two feet showing’.

The next update, two hours later, was the call for help. Labor had stalled, and the new bride would have to excuse herself from the dance floor at her own wedding reception and get to work.

Ben was in the kitchen making tea for the guests when a friend informed him about the situation.

“My first question was, ‘Jessa is down there in the mud, isn’t she?” he said. “And all I got was a, ‘Yup.'”

…”We came back up to the reception and everyone just kind of looked at me, sort of looking at the dress and sort of going, ‘What’s happened?’ she said.

“The city people were absolutely amazed. My farming friends were just like, ‘Yep, that’s what we expected of Jessa.'” —CBC

The new calf’s name? Destiny.

Respect.

That’s one badass chica. We wish her only the best in her life.

Biblical Badasses: The Women

In Doug Giles’ latest book, Biblical Badasses: The Women, Giles spotlights ten epic ladies who did awesome things for God with the odds severely stacked against them. These girls weren’t your typical church ladies. They were holy movers and shakers who upset hell with their God-honoring, faith-filled, lives. Giles’ unique take on these terrific women makes the scripture come alive. This book is real, raw, relevant, and irreverent. Giles’ prayer is that after reading, Biblical Badasses: The Women, not only will your noggin be filled with these amazing tales of high and lows from real women who rocked in a hard place, via the power of God, but that you will get off your butt, quit pursuing stupidity, start chasing down your high calling and at the end of your life, you too, like the holy femme fatales featured herein, will have left a massive scar on Satan’s haggard backside.
