This tragedy could have been much worse if the suspect hadn’t been spooked when he came back for the murdered boy’s brother.

Cash and Carter Gernon were staying with their father’s ex-girlfriend, Monica Sherrod, 39, and her son, Kameron Moori. The Gernon boys’ were left in the care of Sherrod after their father disappeared suddenly in March. The twins’ biological mother, Melinda Seagroves, had been frantically searching for them for some time.

Early on May 15, Cash’s body was found by a woman going for an early morning walk.

ClashDaily originally reported this senseless tragedy here:

Dear CNN: Is This A ‘Hate Crime?’

Surveillance video from inside the home identified the suspect as 18-year old Darriynn Brown, the brother of one of Kameron Moori’s friends.

Brown apparently entered the home before dawn through an unlocked garage and forced his way into the back door of the house. The boys’ room was near the rear entrance in a different part of the house where others were sleeping.

Video shows Brown hovering over the twin boys as they slept together in the same converted crib, then grabbing Cash while it was dark, and returning hours later for Carter as Cash lay dead on the street.

The man suspected of abducting four-year-old Cash Gernon before stabbing him to death and dumping his body on a street in Dallas allegedly returned hours later at daybreak to snatch his twin brother Carter.

The chilling moment Darriynn Brown hovers menacingly over the crib of Carter Gernon, as Cash lay stabbed to death on a street a half-mile away, is captured on home surveillance footage exclusively obtained by DailyMail.com.

Brown, 18, reaches down and touches the boy as he stirs in his toddler bed, before wandering around the room, seemingly disturbed by a sound, and fleeing the room, leaving the boy sleeping peacefully.

A few hours earlier just before 5am, Brown allegedly broke into the same home and made off with Cash, who was later found dead, shirtless and barefoot about eight blocks away on the 7500 block of Saddleridge Drive…

…’Other footage shows him returning at 7am. It seemed he was spooked by someone,’ Sherrod told DailyMail.com on Tuesday.

‘It chills me to think that he could have been coming back for Carter.’

This is just such an awful tragedy. It’s also a prime example of why you need to take care of yourself and your own with an alarm system, guard dogs, and, of course, a licensed firearm with proper training.
