Biden may have already given up on Afghanistan. But the legitimately elected administration still has some fight left in it. And the Veep is stepping up in his President’s absence.
The Taliban have taken up the Democrats’ own ‘smooth transition of power’ talking points, but some of Afghanistan’s elected government has pledged to show what Resistance against authoritarian rulers actually looks like.
They’re staring down some long odds, but they are ready to roll the dice and fight for the soul of their country. Unlike Joe’s overblown rhetoric, the ‘soul of the country’ is exactly what is on the line over there.
Here is their Vice President drawing a line in the sand…

It’s about time someone called Joe Biden on his line about our allies in Afghanistan being ‘cowards’. It was Joe’s craptastic withdrawal plan that effectively pulled the rug out of much of the information logistics and air support Afghanistan would have used to hold the Taliban at bay. It’s a decision he and he alone owns.
America may not have faced a single life lost over there in more than a year, but Afghanistan has thrown thousands of their own brave young soldiers into the meat grinder this year, and tens of thousands in the fighting overall. And now they are expected to do it without the logistical support and ground crews needed to keep the helicopters in the air.
It will probably help that one of his public supporters is the son of a famous war hero who fought both the Soviets and the Taliban.
Saleh appears to have been joined by Ahmad Massoud, the son of the legendary “Lion of Panjshir,” Ahmad Shah Massoud, a guerrilla commander who fought Soviet forces inside Afghanistan. The “Lion” subsequently fought the Taliban regime, and was killed in 2001.
A video appeared Monday on Twitter and other social media platforms, purporting to show Saleh and Masoud, along with armed associates, on a war footing while boarding a military helicopter.
“Amrullah Saleh, Vice President of Afghanistan and Ahmad Massoud, son of Ahmad Shah Massoud spotted in Panjshir,” tweeted Sudhir Chaudhary, an India-based journalist. “They are bringing all Anti-Taliban commanders together in Panjshir. This province is still free from Taliban.” –JustTheNews
We don’t have the foggiest clue what the outcome will be, or how likely they are to organize a capable response to the Taliban takeover. But there are still some Afghanis who have no intention of letting their daughters get carried away by terrorist thugs without a fight. And if there’s one thing that Afghanistan’s citizens know about, it’s fighting.
The fact that the Taliban have seized so many government buildings and various resources makes their objective tough… but it will not be impossible. China and Russia are already prepared to acknowledge Taliban legitimacy.
The question is, will the public rally to the support of the leader, or will they hedge their bets and take their chances with supporting the Taliban, ‘hoping the crocodile will eat them last’.
