By now, you’ve heard that Facebook is in the middle of a rebranding campaign.
As if Social Media hadn’t already sucked far too many people out of th real world into a world of fake friends and interactions with strangers, they are doubling down.
Here’s a glimpse at the next level of Facebook blurring the lines of real life and their own information-gathering (and selling) engine.
That’s just the creepy part of this story. The funny part is what happened in the rebranding.
Israelis and Hebrew speakers worldwide have been mocking the recent change of Facebook Inc’s name to “Meta.”
The name in question, in Hebrew, is the conjugation of the feminine form for “dead” in both present and past tenses, leading many social media users who speak the language to ridicule the rebrand, leading to the hashtag ‘#FacebookDead.’
The Israeli emergency rescue unit Zaka, whose job is to collect human remains to ensure proper burials, shared their take on the rebrand last week, tweeting: “Don’t worry, we’re on it. #FacebookDead” in Hebrew. —JersualemPost
Zuckerberg should have clued in on that mistake.
After all, he IS Jewish.
It’s one thing to make a mistake like that in some obscure language from a far-flung part of the world.
But Zuckerberg screwed up the new branding … in Hebrew.
