LINN: Revising The Curriculum

There has been a lot of talk lately concerning the curriculum at all levels of education, particularly with the issue of the Critical Race Theory.

But in addition to the debate over the critical race theory, political correctness, liberal indoctrination, etc. there is also the issue of what subjects should be taught in our schools.  So I have come up with the following curriculum for grade school and high school (with seven periods):

First Grade:  Reading, Language Arts (Spelling/English), Math (Arithmetic), Science (Integrated), Social Studies (Geography), Health/Physical Education/Music/Art*, and Typing/Computers**.

Second Grade:  Reading, Language Arts (Spelling/English), Math (Arithmetic), Science (Integrated), Social Studies (Global Studies), Health/Physical Education/ Music/Art*, and Typing/Computers**.

Third Grade:  Reading, Language Arts (Spelling/English), Math (Arithmetic), Science (Integrated), Social Studies (World History), Health/Physical Education/ Music/Art*, and Typing/Computers**.

Fourth Grade:  Reading, Language Arts (Spelling/English), Math (Arithmetic), Science (Life Sciences), Social Studies (American History), Health/Physical Education/Music/Art*, and Typing/Computers**.

Fifth Grade:  Reading, Language Arts (Spelling/English), Math (Arithmetic), Science (Physical Sciences), Social Studies (Political Science, with an emphasis on Civics), Health/Physical Education/ Music/Art*, and Typing/Computers**.

Sixth Grade:  Reading, Language Arts (Spelling/English), Math (Arithmetic), Science (Integrated), Social Studies (Integrated:  Geography/Global Studies/Political Science [with an emphasis on Civics]), Health/Physical Education/Typing/Computers*, and one Elective.

Seventh Grade:  Reading, Language Arts (Spelling/English), Math (Arithmetic), Science (Life Sciences), Social Studies (World History), Health/Physical Education/Typing/Computers*, and one Elective.

Eighth Grade:  Reading, Language Arts (Spelling/English), Math (Pre-Algebra), Science (Physical Sciences), Social Studies (American History), Health/Physical Education/Typing/Computers*, and one Elective.

Ninth Grade:  English, Algebra I, Biology, World History, Health/Physical Education**, and two Electives.

Tenth Grade:  English, Algebra II, Chemistry, American History, Computers, and two Electives.

Eleventh Grade:  English, Geometry, Geosciences, Geography, and three Electives.

Twelfth Grade:  English, Trigonometry & Calculus, Physics & Astronomy, Political Science (with an emphasis on Civics), and three Electives.

The Electives can consist of (but are not limited to) the following:  Industrial Arts, Music, Art, Foreign Languages, Drama (Theater), Home Economics, Business/Economics, and Band.

Special Education courses will count as always.

With this type of curriculum, there is no need for AP Courses (which actually should be done away with).  In addition, this curriculum covers all the general education courses and any Electives students will need in order to prepare themselves for college.

Naturally, such a curriculum should be free of indoctrination, political correctness, and thus make the students culturally literate.

*Indicates one course is taught over a period of nine weeks.

** Indicates one course is taught during each semester.
