Chalk this up to one more “rare” example of voter fraud charges. Of course, it’s a Democrat.

Buchanan County Supervisor Trey Adkins was indicted by a Grand Jury on May 2 along with his aunt Sherry Lynn Bailey. Together, the pair face 94 felony charges relating to election fraud and embezzlement.

Buchanan County has approximately 20,000 residents and is located in the far western part of Virginia, bordering both Kentucky and West Virginia.

WJHL in Johnson City, Tennessee reports:

WJHL-TV aslo posted a list of the charges.

Trey Adkins is the current Knox District Supervisor for Buchanan County, and faces 82 felony charges:

34 counts of False Statement – Election Fraud
11 counts of Absentee Voting Procedure Violation
8 counts of Public Embezzlement
11 counts of Forgery of Public Record
15 counts of Uttering Public Record
3 counts of Conspiracy to Make a False Statement – Election Fraud
Sherry Lynn Bailey was indicted on 12 different felony charges:

4 counts of False Statement – Election Fraud
4 counts of Conspiracy to Make a False Statement
4 counts of Forgery of Public Record

Trey Adkins first won his seat as one of the five members of the Buchanan County Supervisors in 2011.

According to documents, the jury found that Adkins “falsified absentee ballots and forged signatures to win an election for public office.”

WJHL reports that Adkins has been under investigation by Virginia State Police for over two years. Zach Stoots, a prosecutor from nearby Russell County has been appointed as Special Prosecutor in the case.

WCYB reports that Adkins posted an 11-minute video on Facebook insisting that he’s innocent of the charges.

Buchanan County Supervisor Trey Adkins said, “We knew this would come to a head eventually, and it has. The charges are out there, we know what we’re facing, we know what the accusations are and we’re thankful for that. It’s going to bring an end to it.”…

…”The issue they’re having is how the envelopes were witnessed. So, you know, it’s not that somebody didn’t get to vote the way they wanted to, or there was some kind of big fraud going on. That’s the term they use for the code section that they applied to it, and we’ll address that,” Adkins said.

Adkins also clarified that the embezzlement charge wasn’t because he had taken any money from the county, but that he was “accused of giving people gravel.”

It’s not as innocent as Adkins claims it is, though — he is accused of using his personal construction company to supply county-owned gravel to private individuals.

Things don’t look good for this Democrat, but he remains defiant.

“And let me be clear about something else here. We will most definitely fight this in court. And once we are able to make a statement and explain who’s who and what’s going on, it’s going to shock this county,” Adkins stated.
