The new pay-to-play for blue-check Twitter users could be rolled out as early as next week. Libs are taking the news badly.

Elon Musk has made it very clear that he wanted to adjust the system to verify users on Twitter. The process to get the coveted verification badge isn’t dependent on building a following on the platform, but on filling out an application form and waiting for the Powers That Be to decide whether or not you’re worthy.

On Sunday, Musk replied to a tweet saying that the verification process was being revamped.

Shortly after that tweet, tech site The Verge reported that the Twitter Blue subscription service that offers additonal features will be upped from $4.99/month to $19.99/month and include verification as well as other features yet unnamed. (Could one of those features would be an edit button that users have been asking for?) Current verified users would have 90 days to upgrade or lose their blue checkmark.

But that’s not all…

The Daily Mail reports that although Twitter employees were only told about the change on October 30, the deadline is November 7 and if it isn’t met, the team working on it will be fired.

From the article:

Now that he owns Twitter, Elon Musk has given employees their first ultimatum: Meet his deadline to introduce paid verification on Twitter or pack up and leave.
The directive is to change Twitter Blue, the company’s optional, $4.99 a month subscription that unlocks additional features, into a more expensive subscription that also verifies users, according to people familiar with the matter and internal correspondence seen by The Verge. Twitter is currently planning to charge $19.99 for the new Twitter Blue subscription. Under the current plan, verified users would have 90 days to subscribe or lose their blue checkmark. Employees working on the project were told on Sunday that they need to meet a deadline of November 7th to launch the feature or they will be fired.

There’s only one reaction to this…

The Blue Checkmark Brigade of lefty journos, actors, and “influencers” are not very happy.

Nina Turner of the progressive YouTube channel The Young Turks doesn’t seem to understand that someone can have a Twitter account without being verified.

Canadian journo David Aikin really nailed the out-of-touch, elitist journo routine with his reaction.

The journos that have their propaganda behind paywalls want to have that Twitter verification badge for free because it is a symbol of their moral and intellectual superiority over the plebs.

Hilarious.

If they can pay for a fake bot following, they can pay for verification. That seems fair.

Right-wing Twitter had a very different reaction.

Well, it looks like we’ll see what happens soon enough.

And we’ll know which journos treat Twitter like it’s a crack habit and will shell out the $20/month fee to keep their verified badge… and then we can laugh at them.
