Another Deadly Weekend in Chicago

Gun controlled Chicago had 19 people shot and wounded this weekend. An additional 6 more were shot and killed this weekend in Lori Lightfoot’s Chicago.

That makes a total of 69 people shot in the last week. The total is now over 3,400 people shot this year by the drug gangs who control Chicago. To put that in perspective, a person is shot in Chicago every two and a half hours. I wish that Chicago were our only failed city.

Baltimore had 6 people shot to death last week. That is one more than the previous week so violent crime is up slightly. That brings the total up to 281 people shot and killed in Baltimore this year.

I bring this up because both Chicago, Illinois and Baltimore, Maryland are noted for their extremely strict gun-control laws. If ink–on-paper would make us safer, then those cities should be as safe as Mayberry was supposed to be. In fact, it takes more than ink-on-paper and another press release to stop criminals.

We are not all the same. Each year, most counties won’t have a single murder of any kind. Violence is localized. More than half of our murders are in only 2 percent of our counties. Our murders are from our failed cities, and from the politicians who killed them. Those politicians say the violence in their cities isn’t really their fault. They blame the guns.. that come from other places where there isn’t crime.

Our news is broadcast from our major cities. That means it is important to recognize when our neighborhood is safe even though that might not make the news. Good governance, a good economy, and a functioning justice system drastically reduce crime for most of us. Obviously not for Chicago and not for Baltimore.
