LMAO: Meme-Makers Mock ‘Doomsday Clock’ Announcement (VIDEO)

Meme-makers had a blast poking fun at the latest round of fear-mongering that is shoved in our faces 24/7/365.

On Tuesday, a group of atomic scientists announced that the hands on the “Doomsday Clock” have been moved to 90 seconds to midnight — the closest it has ever been to the threat of global annihilation.

Once a year, the Chicago-based non-profit organization, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, updates the time on the “Doomsday Clock” based on the risks to the planet and humanity.

Seventy-five years ago, the clock was set at 7 minutes to midnight.

The current time at 90 seconds to midnight breaks the previous record set in 2020 at 100 seconds.

In 1991, the clock was at 17 minutes to midnight — the furthest point since the tracking began — after the end of the Cold War when the U.S. and Russia signed the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty that reduced both nations’ nuclear weapons stockpiles.

Of course, one major factor in the moving of the hands was Russia’s invasion of Ukraine which has reignited the threat of nuclear war. Take a wild guess what the other major factors are… (hint: it’s not China.)

The world is closer to annihilation than it has ever been since the first nuclear bombs were released at the close of World War II, The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists said Tuesday. The time on the Doomsday Clock moved forward from 100 seconds to midnight to 90 seconds to midnight.
It’s a reset of what has come to be known as the Doomsday Clock, a decades long project of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists featuring a clock face where midnight represents Armageddon.
Between Russia’s nuclear brinkmanship in its war on Ukraine, the real threats of climate change becoming increasingly dire and ongoing concerns about more possible pandemics caused by humans encroaching on formerly wild areas, the Bulletin chose to set the clock the closest to midnight yet.
The world is facing a gathering storm of extinction-level consequences, exacerbated by the illegal invasion of Ukraine by Russia. This explains the latest advance of the clock, said Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland and former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Reuters explains the Doomsday Clock this way:

The Doomsday Clock is a symbolic timepiece showing how close the world is to ending. Midnight marks the theoretical point of annihilation.
Apocalyptic threats could arise from political tensions, weapons, technology, climate change or pandemic illness.
The hands of the clock are moved closer to or further away from midnight based on the scientists’ reading of existential threats at a particular time.

Note the shift in the way that the threat level is calculated — since when do atomic scientists consider pandemics and climate as existential threats?

The “Doomsday Clock” has historically been related to the threat of nuclear war. Ask anyone who remembers the 1980s and they’ll tell you that.

It would seem that the atomic scientists had to broaden their scope of existential risks when nuclear annihilation wasn’t an imminent threat for the past twenty years or so.

These people clearly take themselves (and their own opinions) way too seriously.

A bunch of meme makers on the Right decided to help them out with that…

(If you know, you know.)

These ones might be just a little too on the nose.
