Suzie Trexler is a badass mom who demonstrated a definition of ‘powerful woman’ that has nothing to do with the activist corporate ladder understanding of the term.
With her kid in danger, she gave no thought to her own safety in doing whatever it takes to rescue him. That includes going mono-a-mono against an apex predator in San Mateo County, California.
The boy, Jack Trexler, was walking with his mother and grandparents along Tunitas Creek Road in an unincorporated section of the county when he was “taken to the ground” by a cougar, wildlife officials said. The child lives on a nearby property with his parents, who run a local farm called Potrero Nuevo.
“The attack was very, very vicious in nature,” said Capt. Patrick Foy from state’s Department of Fish and Wildlife. “Every indication is that (the mother) saved her son’s life.”
The boy’s mother, Suzie Trexler, charged at the lion. As she approached, the animal released the boy. His mother scooped him up and “ran down the hill” to get him to safety, after which she brought him herself to local hospital. Later, he was transferred to Stanford’s trauma center, his aunt, Amie Wagner, said.
“Suzie is a real strong mother and she is a hero,” said Wagner, whose brother is Suzie’s husband. “It’s obviously been traumatic but I think she’s really to focus on the positive, knowing how much worse it could have been.” — SanFrancisco Chronicle
