Joe Biden. He has told various lies over the years, ranging from blaming his first wife’s death on a drunk driver (even though the accident was the result of his first wife pulling out in front of an oncoming tractor-trailer) to his son Beau being killed in Iraq (despite the fact that his son actually died of brain cancer).
It’s unclear why he tells these lies. Perhaps he’s taking a page from Bill Clinton (i.e. “I feel your pain”) by trying to relate to an individual’s tragic story. Maybe he’s trying to one-up someone when he hears their story. Perhaps it’s him being senile. Or maybe he’s just being a typical politician.
Then there’s his creepiness, ranging from him sniffing a girl’s hair to abruptly telling a teenage girl during a photo-op that she shouldn’t have any serious guys until she’s thirty (somehow I doubt she was asking him for dating advice beforehand). There was supposedly a diary written by his daughter Ashley saying that she was molested by him.
At any rate, Joe Biden reminds me of a man named Gary O. Gary would frequently lie. For instance, while serving in Vietnam, he claimed to have been wounded twice — even winding up with a bunch of shrapnel in his back. Gary also claimed that on the way back to the base from patrol, his CO wanted to take a shortcut, but Gary refused, feeling that the shortcut was booby-trapped. The CO threatened to have Gary court-martialed if he didn’t accompany the rest of his unit on the shortcut, but Gary still refused. So Gary took the longer route while everyone else took the shortcut. Later on, the CO came up to Gary and apologized to him since the shortcut really was booby-trapped (in which several soldiers were killed).
Gary also claimed to have twenty sniper kills in Vietnam, although a list of the top snipers with kills in the double digits curiously did not have his name. He also once described a situation that was similar to a scene from the movie 84 Charlie MoPic (a 1989 film about Vietnam). He even claimed to be in Munich when the Israeli Olympic Team was taken hostage. However, he gave differing accounts. One account involved him driving when he heard the shooting (note: it’s unclear if he was referring to when the Israelis were taken or the botched rescue attempt at the airport). Another account involved him hitting the dirt on the base he was stationed at as soon as he heard the shooting (most likely he was referring to the attempted rescue at the airport).
Such stories resulted in a search for his DD-214 (i.e. service records), which he claimed were destroyed when a fire broke out at the National Personnel Records Center in 1973. But I guess he wasn’t aware that no records of Vietnam Veterans were affected in any way, shape, or form — obviously, he didn’t want anyone looking into his military service since his lies would be exposed.
When his DD-214 was obtained, it was revealed that he served in Vietnam. However, there is no mention of any Purple Hearts, which he would have been awarded if he was wounded twice. Nor is there any mention of any sniper kills.
Gary was also bigoted and a jerk, just like Joe Biden. And like Joe Biden, he was also creepy. On more than one occasion, he was seen engaging in incestuous behavior with his adult daughter, ranging from sucking on her fingers to both him and her licking each other’s faces. She was even seen sitting in his lap while they were watching television together.
So do how I know about Gary? He married my mom in 1998, three years after my dad died. Needless to say, my siblings and I didn’t care much for him. Nor did we claim him as a stepfather, since we were all adults.
My mom died in 2009, so we eventually parted ways with Gary. A married couple later rented a room out to him at their residence. In 2015, the husband and wife got into a fight, and when Gary tried to intervene, the husband threw a pot of hot rice on his back, resulting in severe burns. They later reconciled, and he continued to stay at their home.
Then in 2021, Gary was found murdered — he had been stabbed to death with a screwdriver. The wife claimed her husband did it. So the husband was arrested and has gone through a series of status hearings — presumably to determine if he is mentally fit to stand trial.
I’m surprised Gary didn’t use his karate skills to defend himself in both instances, since he said he was a black belt. As it turns out, he admitted to taking only one karate lesson after one of my sisters-in-law confronted him on being a jerk and a liar.
Thus, both Joe Biden and Gary O. had a lot in common.
