Buckle Up NYC: Despite Spiking Crime, Cops Are Quitting En Masse & Mayor Slashing To The Bone
Things are going to get much worse before they get any better

New York’s Mayor Adams still thinks immigration is a wonderful idea. He just complains it’s expensive. He also thinks too many people decided to show up in New York.
Hizzoner has been crying poor, wanting federal funds to subsidize the illegal immigration he claims to love so much. In the mean time, he’s still got a (sanctuary) city to run. And that takes money.
New York has announced austerity measures it has put in force in response to the added expense of caring for all of these people who (we are assured) are a net benefit to society.
It came minutes after his budget director admitted in a briefing the need for belt-tightening, to deal with a $7 billion budget gap caused in part by the asylum seeker crisis and the reduction in federal aid for COVID, would force the city to stop hiring cops for the foreseeable future.
The budget director said the next five classes at the police academy will be canceled and the number of cops is expected to drop from 33,541 to about 29,000 in the fiscal year starting July 2024. That’s the lowest number of cops since the 1990s, he said.
Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry was stunned. He said the cuts could kill 30 years of public safety progress.
“This is truly a disaster for every New Yorker who cares about safe streets. Cops are already stretched to our breaking point, and these cuts will return us to staffing levels we haven’t seen since the crime epidemic of the ’80s and ’90s. We cannot go back there. We need every level of government to work together to find a way to support police officers and protect New York City’s thirty years of public safety progress,” Hendry told CBS New York in a statement. — CBSNY
So, they’re going to stop hiring new cops… even though more people are coming into the city and crime has been on the rise.
It gets worse. Even the cops they DO have are dropping like flies. They can’t even be bothered sticking around long enough to get their golden handshake.
A total of 2,516 NYPD cops have left so far this year, the fourth highest number in the past decade and 43% more than the 1,750 who hightailed it in 2018, before the pandemic and crime spikes hit the city, NYPD pension data show.
The number of cops quitting before they reach the 20 years required to receive their full pensions also skyrocketed from 509 in 2020 to 1,040 so far this year — an alarming 104% increase, the data show.
The years of departures and lack of replacements are now taking a toll, forcing the cops who remain on the job to work “inhumane amounts of forced overtime,” Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry said.
[…]
“The workload is a leading factor driving people away from the job,” the union leader said. “If the NYPD is going to survive these staffing reductions, it cannot just keep squeezing cops for more hours.” — NYPost
Hold on… one big thing that’s making veteran cops leave (taking all of their institutional knowledge with them) is ‘inhumane amounts of forced overtime’ and the city’s plan moving forward is to… *checks notes* … cut staffing.
Say what?
For anyone still in the Big Apple, this might be a good time to be working on having an exit strategy at the ready.
Because Snake Plissken won’t be coming to help you if things get really hairy.
John The Baptist: A Rude Awakening Precedes A Great Awakening.
This timely little tome chronicles the politically incorrect ministry of one of God’s most effective wildmen, John the Baptist, who prepared the way for Christ’s ministry.
The abrasive message of repentance John preached 2000 years ago is still confrontational and offensive today — but it is also life-changing.
In our putrid, worldly culture that has turned away from God, this book is a must-read for every Christian.
Available in paperback for those of you who like the feel of the pages in your hot, little hands, on Kindle to keep it right at your fingertips, and as an epic Audiobook.
