On This One Chi-Coms Call It Right: San Fran Situation Disgraceful (Rest of Gov’t Too!)

In these times of saber-toothed partisanship, it's the relatively rare cat who can accept truth when it's spoken from an enemy; or even from a mere rival.

In these times of saber-toothed partisanship, it’s the relatively rare cat who can accept truth when it’s spoken from an enemy; or even from a mere rival. A willingness to hear and accept an unwelcomed bit of information or opinion from a less-than-preferred source? That’s the very definition of “objectivity” — which, once more, is in short supply nowadays whether we’re talking “Right”, “Left” or “Independent”.

Automatically dismissing something because we disapprove of its provenance is, contrarily, called the “genetic fallacy” — and it’s an unproductive approach to learning, discussion and debate. It’s also a dumb way to approach the world. All truth, after all, is God’s truth; no matter who speaketh.

That would include a barbarous regime like Red China. On the heels of Joe Biden’s November huddle with twenty other world leaders  — including China’s President Xi Jinping — at San Francisco’s Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit, the Chinese media actually offered observations that were as painfully spot on as they were obvious:

“San Francisco’s clean street and the disappearance of homeless people demonstrate the city has the ability to address the malaise but only seems willing to do so when an international summit is approaching rather than for the sake of its own people.”

Ouch.

The Global Times and Chinese social media site Weibo smirkingly posted before-and-after photos of a Golden Gate City street. Meanwhile, MRCTV‘s Craig Bannister elaborates,

“China’s state-controlled media are mocking how San Francisco’s drug, filth and homeless problems ‘miraculously disappeared overnight’ ahead of this week’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in the city.”

For his part, Sacramento’s District Attorney Thien Ho — understandably provoked by the manner San Francisco was able to tidy up its byways with a finger snap while California’s State Capital remains mired in muck — is considering criminal charges against his city. Point of fact, statistics indicate Sacramento’s homeless crisis is worse than San Fran’s. The former actually features two city-owned “safe grounds” where indigents can camp under the self-government of an advisory committee made up of its own residents.

The New York Sun‘s Maggie Hroncich writes:

“[L]ess than 100 miles away [from San Francisco,] Sacramento’s district attorney, Thien Ho, has had to resort to lawsuits and threats of criminal charges against the city for its failure to clean up the state’s capital. Sacramento’s inaction on cleaning up the rampant garbage, crime, and public nuisances associated with the campsite — despite many resident complaints — raises questions about whether California is only capable of cleaning up its cities when a foreign leader visits.”

The hinge term in that excerpt? “Capable”. The San Francisco situation indisputably demonstrates resolving the intolerable homeless/drug addiction problem in Golden State municipalities is not a question of ability, but of will. If properly motivated, officials clearly can take care of the dilemma — for whatever reason, they simply have chosen not to do so. Even tyrannical Chinese authoritarians recognize as much.

“San Francisco has been deteriorating for years,” writes Western Journal‘s Rachel M. Emmanuel. I might add, it’s been doing so for all to see, before local, state and national outcry … Walking Dead-style addicts and mentally ill throngs stumbling and nodding off in wide open view of pedestrians, drivers, business owners and customers.

Tech companies departed, tourism dried up, homelessness is rampant, and open drug use has become a normal sight on the streets of the once beautiful City by the Bay. But now, major roads are being repaved, train cars are being deep cleaned, and the entire city is getting a scrubbing and power washing … But the question many locals are asking is: Why did it take a summit to clean up the city?”

As has already been noted, America’s Middle Kingdom adversaries announce the answer out loud: misallocated priorities. The general well-being of San Francisco denizens and businesses? The city responds, “Nah”. Impressing international muckety-mucks? Absolutely! At tax-payer expense, need it be said?

Emmanuel further reports,

“[N]o additional funds were even allocated. The city just refocused existing budgets on cosmetic improvements in areas VIPs will frequent, … The dignity of a clean city is only afforded to the wealthy and famous — the rest of the city was not worth the effort. The trash is easily disposed of. But the major problems have just been swept under the rug until the guests leave.”

At a November 9 presser, even California Governor — and suspected future Democratic presidential contender — Gavin Newsom insouciantly admitted the scrambled preferences:

“I know folks say ‘Oh, they’re only cleaning up this place because all those fancy leaders are coming into town.’ That’s true, because it’s true.”

Well, I guess that settles it?

The implications of his and Cali’s surrenderist attitude actually extend far beyond the boundaries of the nation’s most populous state. With few exceptions, U.S. government on every level is failing to carry out core functions — not necessarily because it is incapacitated from doing so, but because those who man it don’t have the gumption or guts to carry out these necessities.

What is America facing right now? A grotesque national deficit and debt; Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare steaming toward insolvency; the disintegration of order and national security along her southern border; the hollowing out of the nation’s military. These are only some of the challenges wailing for action; action that is possible, that can be initiated if elected and appointed panjandrum’s will genuinely commit to do so. But there’s the rub, isn’t it? That “genuinely commit” part.

The country’s movers-and-shakers too commonly content themselves to pander and play at leadership, hopscotching from one political campaign or government station to the next, accumulating benefits and ephemeral recognition along the way … while not actually furnishing workable solutions to circumstances they should — and can — meaningfully address.

The Chi-Com predators are evil, godless. They want to take over the world. They don’t really care a whit for the United States’ well-being. Instead, Beijing bluntly wants to conquer it. And red-faced U.S. citizens must endure lectures from such as these? It’s an insufferable scandal. But in its jeering reflections on San Francisco hypocrisy, China’s puppet-controlled media happen to be right this time around; which ought to shame and sting any cherisher of the “land of the free and home of the brave”.

It’d be nice if that would shame and sting San Francisco’s leadership — and America’s leaders across the country — to stop equivocating, knock it off with the excuse-making and start discharging their duties.
