House Removes George Santos, Fails To Impeach Mayorkas… Again
Whatever you think of the guy, this is a helluva precedent being set here
Until today, it took a criminal conviction or participation in the wrong side of the American Civil War to get tossed out of Congress. Until today.
Today, Republican George Santos became the first guy to be tossed out of Congress without either a Confederacy connection or a criminal conviction in a court of law.
Not only does that set a precedent where slanderous allegations that stick will be enough to destroy an elected official’s career (further motivating the smear campaigns that were an explicit part of the Media Matters strategy to destroy Trump from even before he was sworn in) but has been used to destroy and intimidate since at least as far back as the time Senator Joe Biden destroyed a good man by turning ‘Bork’ into a verb.
Even as this article is being written, the left is leveraging that very same tactic against a threat to their speech monopoly: Elon Musk and his Social Media platform, ‘X’.
After we describe the vote and the result, we will compare that result to another vote that came up in Congress yesterday… involving Mayorkas.
Here’s the vote in a nutshell:
After the vote, Santos officially longer has a role in Congress. There is an open seat in New York that needs filling.
As a consequence, New Yorkers in his district do NOT have a voice representing their interests in Congress, as is their right.
This is the downside of normalizing this process, especially in such a morally bankrupt hyperpartisan power-at-all-costs period of time as the one in which we currently live.
House GOP had no problem rallying around setting this new precedent of throwing Santos out of Congress, even without a criminal conviction.
But there’s another function they have in Congress, one that is far less controversial than removing someone who was duly-elected and sent there to be the voice of constituents in his district at the Federal level.
That function is one of oversight — of living out their role as a check-and-balance against elements of the Executive Branch that might go rogue and defy the constraints they are to operate within as established by both law and the Constitution.
There are at least three people in the Executive branch who have been of significant interest to the voting public for the ways in which they have transgressed those established constraints: Garland, Mayorkas, and Biden himself.
Yesterday, the absolute lawlessness of the Southern border that has resulted in almost half-a-trillion dollars in added expense was in focus as some members of the House GOP prepared to call for the impeachment of Mayorkas.
The evidence against how he has failed in his role — or more likely, succeeded in subverting US law — is incontrovertible.
How hard could it be to initiate impeachment proceedings against someone who has obviously gone rogue?
Short answer: far harder than it has any right to be. Especially when more than a few of us are absolutely convinced that Mayorkas routinely perjures himself in Congress.

Some have reacted with anger:
Others with humor.
One thing that has become clear is that the only way to get anything done in Congress will require a lead too big for a few dissenting Uniparty types to throw their usual wrenches in the process.
That’s a tall order. But not impossible.
